Hi Parents!
We have a couple great opportunities as a classroom! We will be taking monthly field trips to the new public library, starting in March. Our first trip will be Friday, March 21st.
First opportunity:
If you complete the signup sheet, your student will be allowed to check out a book. They will only check one out with me guiding them. However, they will be issued a real library card, so you can use it with your family also. Ultimately, you are responsible for all the public library books your child or family checks out -- I am just beginning the process for you.
Second opportunity:
During the month, they will practice fluency with the book they have checked out. All students will write a review as a part of class. With your permission, however, your child may videotape a review of the book (at school). The public library and I will work together to put a QR code on the shelf where the book sits in the library. This way, other kids may scan that code at the library and watch your child’s video review of the book.
Of course, this is a very public video and you may not feel comfortable having your child participate. This project will be one of many activities that our students do. No harm in skipping, but it will be exciting for those who participate. To be abundantly cautious, we will not use names or identifiers in the videos. This might be considered very similar to allowing Q2 or KULR8 interview your child on his or her book for the news. It is public, but not too scary.
Please complete the attached paperwork for the field trips, the library card, and permission to make the public videos.
Thanks,
Mark Kane
