Career development, in addition to technical growth, is a very important part of the Nanodegree program. Over the last few months, Udacity held career development workshops over Google Hangouts On Air for Nanodegree students which were recorded and written up afterwards. These events are tailored to Nanodegree students and will provide you with the soft skills and industry insight needed to advance your career. Udacity's Android program manager Jennie Kim and full stack engineer Lindsey Smith will guide you through the process of researching companies that will excite you and advance your career goals. We will learn about casting a broad net while also understanding when and how to narrow down companies, departments and roles when searching for the right job.
At least 70% of jobs are never published. How do you find out about them? Your network is the powerful tool that will help you get closer to the dream job. Your fellow students will be the cornerstone of your professional network of front-end web developers. As you connect with instructors and experts through the program, we will also equip you with tools you can use to build your network further. This session will help you get started, provide tips on growing and sustaining the network while also giving up to build credibility.
Now that you have your resume, LinkedIn, and GitHub are lined up, how do you search for a job? We will go over the various pathways you can take to find a job, research the roles and get your foot in the door. You will learn to use all the tools you have aced through the program to get you closer to the dream job.
The interview might be the most nerve-racking part of the job search process. Whether your interview is via phone, video or in person, we will help you rock it! We will cover a general overview including: preparing for the interview, what to wear, asking the right questions and follow up, and then move to a Q&A panel with industry developers and data analysts so you can ask about specific preparation and techniques to help you go in confidently into your next interview.
