What you will need:
Instructions:
Step 1: Add table salt to the bottle cap, fill approximately 3/4 of the way.
Step 2: Slowly add water to the salt (I add a drop at a time), just enough to saturate the salt, but not dissolve it. If you add too much and see standing water use a paper towel to absorb the excess. Your looking for sandcastle consistency.
Step 3: Place your gauge and the bottle cap inside of your air tight container and seal the container tightly, don't try to squeeze out the excess air, make sure not to spill any of the salt mixture.
Step 4: Place the container somewhere that it won't be disturbed for 6-8 hours. After 6-8 hours check the gauges reading. It should read exactly 75%, if it's off from that number, the difference is the amount you will need to add or subtract each time you read your gauge (so if it reads 78 you need to subtract 3 from what the gauge reads and if it reads 72 you would add 3 to what the gauge reads to determine the actual humidity)
If your gauge has an adjustment screw or button you can manually adjust it per the manufacturers instructions by the amount you determined above, but most of the common gauges used by crabbers do not allow for adjustment, so you will have to remember or write down the amount the gauge is off by.
