Glassware Care & Maintenance Guide

Hello and thank you for buying one of my hand-painted glass pieces. I hope you get as much joy and use out of it as much as I loved painting and decorating it. I’ve attached a guide for you about the information on the glass-painting pens used and how to clean and care for the glass-ware.

Cleaning:

Although there were no official instructions provided by the pens and how to clean anything that has been decorated with them, I have created a guide on how to clean the glass-ware that I’ve painted, based on washing and using products on a ‘tester jar’ which has been decorated with all the colours I use. The glass cleaning details are highlighted in yellow below.

The ink used is on the outside of the glass, and the pigment used is oil-based and waterproof. Cleaning should be done with luke-warm water only, with a small amount of soap or washing up liquid, and washed gently and lightly. Do not scrub abrasively or apply heavy pressure. Do not use wire wool (metal scourer) on the glass, do not use rough, abrasive sponges or cleaning tools on the paint or glass-ware.

Do not place in a dishwasher, oven or microwave.

Do not use disinfectants, bleach or any products with strong chemicals in as this could break down, distort or react with the colours and chemical compounds within the inks used.

Gently pat dry with either kitchen towel or a tea towel.

Information About Pens Used:

The specific brand of pens used explains in their product information that the pens are…

"The vibrant, non-toxic colors (sic) are odor (sic)-neutral and allergen-free, making them the ideal choice for children. Our oil-based markers provide you with a versatile tool that combines quality, safety and effectiveness."

Whilst the pens do not explicitly say that they are or are not food safe, I can only provide the information on the pens as given by the suppliers. It's up to individuals buying these jars to use the information provided as a guide, when exercising their own judgement, on whether or not to put food items in the jars.

NOTE: You can always find the link to this guide pinned to the top of any of my social media profiles, from here, you can access this document, and download/print as and when you need to access it. If there are any changes in the glass paint pens I use I’ll create a separate guide with a date, so that any products bought after a certain date will be matched to a guide with a link to those specific glass pen products.
