PROJECT IDEAS

Environmental Sustainability

• Work with a local shelter, nonprofit, business, or place of faith to implement sustainability practices.
• Commit to implementing sustainable holiday practices.
• Write your elected officials urging them to prioritize clean energy and environmental protection, to protect our world and its future. Use this environmental bill tracker to see which environment-related bills are active in your state.

Animal Welfare

• Volunteer at, or organize a supply drive for, your local animal shelter.

Women’s Empowerment

• Volunteer at, or organize a supply drive for, your local women’s shelter.
• Put together women's health and empowerment packages (pads, tampons, cards of encouragement, chocolate, etc.) to leave in public restrooms, perhaps specifically in public restrooms at your local temple or synagogue, at various places of faith, or at your local park. You might also choose to distribute these to unhoused women.

Interfaith Peace

• Collect and distribute books to a little free library, particularly books promoting interfaith peace and friendship, environmental justice, or children's books.
• Check if your local library has the books linked above. If they don’t, request they get them.
• Create and distribute flyers promoting interfaith peace.
• Commit to connecting with someone different from yourself who you wouldn’t normally connect with. Learn something new from them.
• Write your elected officials about the importance of fostering peace in the Middle East, as well as fostering interfaith peace.

Jewish Culture and Heritage

• Donate gifts (toys, books, etc.) for Hanukkah to local Jewish families in need.
• Paint rocks with messages of love and peace and leave them as offerings at your local Jewish cemetery.
• Organize a supply drive for a temple/synagogue in a low-income area.
• Write your elected officials urging them to support legislation combatting antisemitism.

Random Acts of Kindness

• Volunteer at, or organize a winter clothing drive for, a local shelter.
• Stock little free pantries around your town.
• Leave cash and notes of encouragement in the pockets of clothes at thrift stores.
• Shovel snow for elderly neighbors.
• Visit your grandparents if they’re in town, or call or write them a letter (Sarah loved her grandparents 💜).
• Collect blankets to give to unhoused people.
• Bake a pie for someone who could use a winter pick-me-up (Sarah made a beautiful pie for Yaron in her grandma’s pie dish, which she was very proud of 💜).
