Schroeder YMCA Swim Team
Schroeder Conference Info
Everyone is anxiously awaiting the announcement to find out if they’re on the Red, White or Blue Teams. You’ll find out via the newsletter the week of October 13th, because we’ll use the times that swimmers perform in the GMO Meet at WSAC, 10/10 - 10/12.
In the meantime, pencil in Thursday nights in November for Schroeder Conference Meets. Nov. 6th is White Team vs. Red Team; Nov. 13th is White Team vs. Blue Team; Nov. 20th is Red Team vs. Blue Team. Keep in mind that your swimmer will have one of those nights with no meet/practice because one of the teams has a bye.

1. Greater Milwaukee Open Meet (GMO) Entry Due Oct. 1st:
Be a part of the first annual Greater Milwaukee Open at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center October 10th -12th. The entry deadline is 10/1, and it’s coming up quickly. This meet is for Super 8’s, Age Groups 1, 2 and 3, Junior 1 and 2, Senior 1 and 2, SR 1 and 2 HSB. If you’re new to this, see #6 below, Signing Up For Meets.
2. US Junior National Information:
Schroeder South has two swimmers (Ashlyn Schoof and Rina Krupsky) competing in the US Junior Nationals in individual events. The meet is December 10-13th in Federal Way, WA. There are 5 relay events offered in the meet, and we are hoping to compete in all of them because we have the potential to be very competitive. We need 4 swimmers to compete in a relay, so we are looking for S1 and/or J1 female swimmers who are willing to go to Jr Nats as a relay only swimmer if needed and selected.
If you want to commit to the meet, please contact Bob this week. To get reasonable airfare, tickets must be purchased soon. We want to determine who will be on our Jr Nat Team and traveling to Seattle no later than Oct. 3rd so all travel and room arrangements can be finalized.
Bob will send all of the travel & room info to those who indicate they are willing to go.
Some quick info about Jr Nats: College coaches keep a close eye on this meet (many colleges send a coach to attend), so it’s an important meet for swimmers to get exposure (including relay only swimmers); WI Travel Fund money is available for all swimmers attending the meet; relay only swimmers are eligible to swim in time trials so there will be plenty of racing for them and they gain valuable national meet experience; swimmers need not be accompanied by a parent - we have parents already attending so there will be plenty of adult supervision.
This is entirely optional, and those not interested need not respond. If you have questions, contact Bob.

7. Signing Up For Meets On Your Swimmer’s Meet Schedule:
To enter a meet, click on the swim team home page, and scroll down to the list of meets. Click on “Attend/Decline” for the meet (enter password if necessary). Then click on Undeclared Athletes, scroll to your swimmer’s name, click on the name, commit (put yes) in the declaration box, and click on the save changes box.
Once the swimmer is committed, you may choose the swimmer’s events or have the coach choose the events (recommended).
If your swimmer cannot attend, follow the previous steps and put no in the declaration box. Please use the message box to explain why the swimmer is not participating, and then click on the save changes box.
Parents, please remember Coach Bob automatically commits and enters all Senior 1 and Junior 1 swimmers to the meets on their schedule. Swimmers in all other groups are expected to participate in ALL of the meets on their group’s schedule and must commit by the meet entry deadline. Swimmers who decline a meet are expected to communicate the reason why to their coach. If you have questions, do not hesitate to ask.
8. Here’s the New T-Shirt From The Summer Design Contest:
To look at the t-shirt, see #4 above under Schroeder YMCA Swim Team section of the newsletter. Bellas’ Custom Design has the artwork, and we’re now waiting to hear the ordering details from them. Stay Tuned.
9. Schroeder South Think Tank (SSTT):
All are welcome. It’s a great way to meet other parents, give your input, and help strengthen our team.
SSTT had a great meeting on September 8th. Topics of discussion were: increasing the number of prizes and adding incentives for the upcoming team “Cash for the Holidays” raffle; adding a SST Parent/Alumni “Cabin Fever” Get Together in February featuring refreshments and our own house band - Hot by Ziggy - with Eric, Phil and Adam of our Schroeder North coaching staff; having an all team picture next summer at the Wilson Park practice/cookout.
The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 3rd at 6:30 p.m. The location has been changed to Front Room Photo, 2637 S. Kinnickinnic Ave, Bay View. A big thanks to the Laber family for offering their beautiful studio space to host the meeting. We will look into having snacks and beverages at the meeting.
Mark your calendars, put on your “Thinking Caps” and join us in the tank :).
