This is thought to have been a rejected version of the portrait of Gyula Wlassics painted in 1901 [110810]. That portrait is untraced and so a comparison of size is not possible, but their composition is almost identical. The present portrait was kept by de László and remained in his studio until his death. It was destroyed in accordance with the terms of his will in 1947.
