Course Description
The objective of this course is to delve into the works of Latin American literature. We will look at Latin American literature from the 20th century to the present. The class will go over a selection of authors and their works but whenever possible will make the student aware of the vast amount of talented Latin American authors and their writings (as well as the diversity of these works). The course will work with texts selected by the professor. The student should read these outside of class and come prepared to discuss. Class is mainly based on discussion of the works and a greater understanding of the writings. The texts will be accompanied by additional information on the context in which these works arose; economic, political, and social situations, for example.
