In this course, students will

Explore:

  • How people develop their own identity within a new culture
  • The passage from childhood to adulthood
  • The challenges and benefits that come with being a worker
  • The lasting impact of a young girl and her diary

Examine:

  • The quest for freedom that led to the American Civil War
  • Why the horror genre both fascinates and terrifies

Course objectives

Students will be able to understand, analyze and evaluate several forms of text

  • Informational
  • Literature
  • Short stories
  • Speech

Students will be able to create cohesive arguments both in speech and written form

Students will be able to access their creative sides, interacting collaboratively with grace, power and skill

Students will be prepared to enter the 9th grade and continue their academic pursuits

Materials Needed

For Distance Learning, students need:

  • spiral/composition notebook
  • Pencil
  • Pen
  • Inquisitive spirit
  • Thirst for knowledge

90-100 A

80-89   B

70-79   C

60-69   D

0-59     F

Grade Weighting Categories

Assessments      -   70%

Classwork/HW   -  30%

Work Submission Policies 

  • All HW must be submitted by the end of Friday of the week it is assigned
  • Resubmissions will not be accepted in the case of copying/plagiarism
  • Classwork is expected to be finished and submitted during class, however there may be exceptions.
  • Assessment submission is according to instructor’s discretion
