This role is a general committee position which is held by multiple students at a time, often who study under the School of Medical Sciences.
The primary role of General Committee members is to help other Committee members during the planning and carrying-out of MedSciSoc projects and events. In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop a range of skills in collaboration, organisation, communication, and also learn more about the existing structure and Executive roles in committee. Throughout the year there may also be opportunities to take on larger organisational roles for some events. This is a great starting role for anyone wanting to become more involved in contributing to MedSciSoc’s vision.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND OPPORTUNITIES
FAQ
What is the time commitment for this role?
This role is flexible and therefore the amount of time required to put into this role is not standardised, varying between person to person. Compulsory activities are a 1-hour weekly meeting and keeping up to date with the Committee communication platforms. Additionally, organisational-style meetings and volunteering shifts can vary from approximately 2-3+ hours per week depending on the event and your own availability. We advise that the amount of time you put into the role will be reflected in the value of experience and learning you will receive, and therefore always encourage opportunities to help out where possible.
Is this an Executive role?
No. An Executive Role differs as it requires higher levels of responsibility and time commitment than the General Committee Role. General Committee members will often be helping toward someone else’s project goal rather than overseeing and delegating the project as an Executive would. Despite this, the experience and skills that you gain within this role make it a great stepping stone for understanding Executive roles better and will prepare you to nominate yourself for an Executive in future years if you desire to.
