Fifty years ago
When you’re the president of an island named Porombo somewhere southwest of Almia, where time is more or less permanently stopped around the area of 44:00, it’s easy to get jet lag. Then again, President Cody had hired the best of the best to escort him to the Silph Co. meeting: some kid named Allons-y and his pet Vulpix. Although that Vulpix gave him the shudders.
But he made it all the way to Kanto safely, and that was what truly mattered. And there were hundreds of shareholders counting on him to not mess this up and pull another Improbity Badge fiasco like his predecessor had.
Please don’t try to abdicate the presidency again, Boss, his main Robopon, Sunny, requested. That really hurt my feelings.
“Yeah, well, I made a lousy farmer anyway,” Cody said calmly. “But at least I learned a few agricultural tidbits in dealing with Grass-type Pokemon. Who knows, maybe within my lifetime we’ll figure out a cure for blue-bulb syndrome, shall we?”
That would be magnificent. Also, I need oil.
“Robby, go buy Sunny some oil while we head for the Silph Co. building,” said President Cody. “We’ve got a product to hype.”

“And just what is that supposed to be?”
“The future of virtual reality itself! This is the Porygon Quartz model! The next generation of mimickry technology, which I have in no way ripped off from Bill MacKenzie in any way whatsoever! Prepare to be impressed!”
“That,” said one of the stockholders, “is the weirdest-looking Porygon I’ve ever seen!”
“Well, then…” Cody said, “just wait until you see its sister model!”
“...okay, that’s slightly less ugly. But we’ve already created and publicized the Porygon2 model; what on Pokearth do you think you can do with a poorly rendered, clearly abnormal knockoff copy?”
“I’ll show you. Quartz, use Conversion!”
The stockholder meeting was quite short indeed.

“I don’t need this Pokemon, so you can have it for free.”
“...?”
“...no, sir, I am not crazy,” ex-President Cody said. “Just an idiot…”
