Dear [MP's Name],
I am writing to you as one of your constituents to express my deep concern about the growing crisis of eating disorders in our country, and in particular, the lack of adequate services for those affected by these life-threatening conditions. As you may know, eating disorders are among the most severe mental health illnesses, yet they remain dramatically underfunded and under-resourced.
The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Eating Disorders is releasing a report: ‘The Right to Health: People with Eating Disorders failed’ launched yesterday highlighting the urgent need for action to address this crisis. In the last decade, we have seen a sharp rise in eating disorders, a trend that was exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic. Services that were already stretched to breaking point have now collapsed under the weight of increasing demand. The situation is dire. Lives are being lost, families are being torn apart, and the strain on our NHS is unsustainable.
[INSERT PERSONAL STORY]
Eating disorders do not discriminate—they affect people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds, and they take many different forms. Conditions such as Binge Eating Disorder (BED), which is now five times more common than anorexia nervosa, do not even have dedicated NHS services. This means that many individuals in our local community who are struggling with eating disorders are being left without the support they need.
The APPG Report highlights vital recommendations from the development of a national strategy, to adequate funding and a Confidential Inquiry into All Eating Disorder Deaths – To ensure accountability and learn from deaths.

I know that eating disorders can often be an invisible illness, but they are devastating for those who experience them, and for their families. As your constituent, I am asking you to take this issue seriously and advocate for the changes that are urgently needed.
I look forward to hearing from you on how you plan to support these recommendations and take action on this critical issue.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
