There are currently leaked reports that the Biden-Harris administration has threatened to impose sanctions on all arms shipments to Israel unless the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is resolved in 30 days.
This attempt at pacifying our activism will not work. Statements of support have been violated and promised red lines have crossed time and time again. If the Biden administration and the Harris campaign want a chance at winning this election, they must deliver an arms embargo prior to Election Day. Improving the conditions of the humanitarian disaster is not acceptable. The available pressure must be exerted to end the genocide.
We remember how several universities across the US responded to the student encampments by promising to consider divestment. We remember that months after the student encampments dispersed, many of these universities – Brown University, Chapman University, Oberlin College, Occidental College, Williams College and the University of Minnesota – ultimately rejected divestment. We recognize that what the Biden-Harris administration wants is for us to disperse, so that they can pull back this “promise” after the election.
These reports, alongside targeted ads at third parties and a change in tune at the UN, suggest that they are responding to pressure. It is imperative that we hold our line and not capitulate to empty promises.
No Votes for Genocide remains committed to withholding votes from the Democratic Party unless an arms embargo is imposed before Nov 5th.
