PCB DESIGN

As a part of the annual tech-fest extravaganza ‘Dyuthi 15’ of Govt Engineering College Thrissur, the IEEE SB organized a PCB designing workshop in association with Grey Technolabs on 9th and 10th of February 2015 .The 2 day long workshop was designed to orient the first years and other students separately regarding PCB designing and its implementation. The hands-on workshop was conducted by experts from Grey Technolabs and a few IEEE members were trained prior to the workshop and assisted the experts in the classes. The workshop was open for all colleges and a registration of more than 120 students was done. The first years and other students had separate sessions at room no.118 and mechanical seminar hall respectively and they were divided into groups of 5.

In the workshop, Eagle software was introduced, and basic design principles involved in the design process of printed circuit boards was discussed. The students were given hands on training in the design of PCB. Circuits of power supply, microcontroller circuit and motor driver circuit were designed during the workshop. In addition to that an insight into the professional application of the Eagle software was also given. The process of transferring the circuit to copper clad laminate was taught and practical training was given on the circuit etching to every student. A basic training on soldering was also given to every participant.

The workshop turned out to be a huge success. It drew a positive response from all the participants. First years were of the opinion that more of such workshops must be held in future which motivates us, the organizers to arrange for such workshops in future.
