Oil, Gas, and Helium Lease Auction Information and Results
Overview
The State Land Board holds auctions online at energynet.com. Pre-registration is required and may take up to two weeks to process. Generally, the auctions open and close at 10:00 a.m. Central Daylight Time (CDT). Energynet will post the exact auction closing time for each tract on its website.
The State Land Board does not guarantee the availability of any tract; it is the responsibility of the nominator to research tract availability. For assistance, visit the Maps & Data page on the State Land Board website at slb.colorado.gov. Nominations submitted past the deadline will be treated as a nomination for the next available auction.Results are listed from most recent to oldest.
Results prior to 1994 are available from the Colorado State Archives. Stipulation text is included with the PDF Results file from February 2017 to current and with the Excel Results file from February 2019 to current. We do not have Excel files for results prior to 2017.
Lease Royalty Rate Information: Beginning in August 2017, Colorado State Land Board oil and gas leases will be initially offered at a 20% royalty rate and if not sold, it will be available at the next subsequent auction at a 18.75% royalty rate. If a tract is unsold at the 18.75% rate, it will be placed back into the State Land Board inventory and can be nominated for future auctions starting at the 20% royalty rate. The royalty rate is included on auction results from August 2017 to current.
