And then in His parables He used a Samaritan, which was a member of a denigrated group in Christ’s day, as an example of who are neighbors are. The 2010 census lists the city of Long Beach, California as the second most diverse city in the country. So my neighbors, in the practical and the spiritual sense, include many members of the Latinx community, among them the undocumented. I have a Christian obligation to stand by my neighbors in solidarity when they are being oppressed. But that’s also the desire of my heart because I know so many of them personally. That solidarity includes giving them education during the ICE raids with things like the presentation.
