Student Pick Up/Drop Off & “Walker” Procedures:

Early Pick Up:

Drop Off

To ensure your child’s safety the following guidelines for morning drop-off have been implemented at the recommendation for the Wright COunty Sheriff’s OFfice.  With everyone’s cooperation, these procedures will help guarantee safety at OES.

-Be SAFE: Watch the vehicle in front of you and pull as far forward as possible, parallel to the sidewalk.  DO NOT leave the vehicle running to walk your child into school.

Be RESPECTFUL: Yield to any busses present.  Please have your child prepared to exit the vehicle when you arrive at the drop-off site to help with traffic flow.

Be RESPONSIBLE: Drive with the flow of traffic, observe all driving laws and speed limits.  Students need to exit the car and walk on the sidewalk to the front entrance.  School doors open at 9:00 am.

Pick Up

For parents/guardians who will be picking their child(ren) at the end of the day, we ask to keep the 3 B’s in mind:

-Be SAFE: Encourage your child(ren) to follow the directions provided by safety patrol and adults outside.

Be RESPECTFUL: Please be patient as we have both staff and students (safety patrol) working very hard to keep everyone safe.

Be RESPONSIBLE: Please follow the cones on where to pick your child up at the end of the day.  This is helpful with traffic flow.

ATTENDANCE

Regular attendance is essential if students are to be successful in school. Chronic absences interrupt the education of your child. School personnel will make every effort to encourage regular attendance, but the ultimate responsibility lies with the students and their parents/guardians. The complete Attendance Policy is available for your review at your school, the District Office and the District’s Website.  Please note the updated attendance policy letter.

Absent or Late to School:

If your child will be absent, arrive late or leave early, please call the school attendance line (763)241-3555. You may call 24 hours a day and leave a message. If your child is not at school, and the school has not received notice of absence, the school will call the parent or guardian.

When reporting an absence, please include the following information:

Dress Students are expected to be dressed and groomed appropriately for school. Grooming which presents a safety or health hazard or fosters disruptions is prohibited. Clothing with inappropriate slogans, pictures, or language is not permitted. Students may be asked to reverse or exchange clothing, or to remove items such as chains and hanging belts. Headwear, outerwear, book bags, knapsacks, and purses are to be kept in lockers during the school day.

Lunch and Recess

Our general guideline for inside recess during the winter is 0 degree temperature or 10 degrees below wind chill. Weather conditions will vary from building to building and sometimes from one minute to the next, therefore, the building principal (or designee) will ultimately be responsible for determining outside or inside recess.

Accommodations for children with special medical needs can be made with the Health Services Personnel. Written documentation from your child’s physician may be required.

If students are well enough to attend school, they are expected to go outside for recess.

Students are expected to dress appropriately for each season. Parents are encouraged to check the weather and monitor students’ dress.

Student Council Activities:

Otsego Elementary School community days will be decided upon and implemented by Student Council, with approval from administration. Hats and hair paint may be allowed on these days.

Student Planners:

Planners are provided to students in grades 2-5 at no cost. Lost or damaged planners may be purchased for $5.00. The purpose of the planner is to help students become organized, to be responsible, and to communicate with parents. Planners will be taken home daily by students. Students are responsible for sharing planners with parents, obtaining parent signatures, and bringing planners to school the following day.

Parent signatures verify that the planner has been read and that homework is complete. Planners should be signed on a daily basis, not in advance. If homework is not complete, parents should document the reason. Likewise, incomplete or late work will be noted by the teacher.

Staff Information:

Teachers will provide information in regards to Web Pages, contact information and daily schedule. Teacher are permitted to have some flexibility in their school day. Teacher’s duty day is 8:15 – 4:00, however, meetings may occur before and after school. Teachers will provide you with times that they are available.

All visitors must report to the office to sign in and receive a visitor pass. To ensure the safety of students, staff reserves the right to ask for identification or to deny admittance. If parents drop off items, the office staff will deliver items or, if necessary, call students to the office. Students are not allowed to bring friends or relatives to school.
