Engine shutdown after a few seconds when cold

2H - Engine is started but then stops

Symptoms

Engine is started and then a few seconds later shuts down.
Restarting the engine usually resolves it, it stays running.

Cause

The EDIC (Electronic Diesel Injection Control) System Low Oil Pressure shutdown function is operating because oil pressure didnt come up as expected.

Resolution

This is most probably the EDIC low oil pressure function shutting the engine down when it doesnt detect oil pressure coming up after the engine is started. Unfortunately on older 2Hs with a bit of wear the oil pressure takes longer than 10 seconds to come up to pressure. Often just giving it a bit of throttle will encourage it to happen faster. There's no real fix other than a new oil pump/engine rebuild, consequently most people just live with it.
