17th May, 1924.
I have received your letter[1] and much regret that I am unable to add to the Fund for the Tintoretto picture, but I have such unexpected expenses and his taxes to pay that I am unable to do as I would like in this case. I only hope that the Art Collections Fund will succeed in getting together the necessary money to keep this fine work of Art in the country but in any case I will promise to mention the matter to friends who may take an interest in it.[2]
