BlizzCon Meetup

It's that time of the year again. BlizzCon is barely a week away. For the past few years we've been getting together the night before BlizzCon for drinks and bowling. We will be doing it again this year.

We'll be meeting at the Bowlmor Lanes located inside the Anaheim Gardenwalk Mall Thursday, November 6th at 9:00pm local time. Our meetup has always been very casual so feel free to show up, grab a beer, and bowl!

BIG FAT RUMOR: Eye of Azshara - next Hearthstone Expansion?

As reported by Hearthpwn, Blizzard filed a trademark for "Eye of Azshara" this week.  Many prominent community members have been receiving goblin-style "blueprints" for various Goblin inventions with notes stating, "I hope you like my invention!"  Hearthpwn's take on this, plus the Goblin control of the Azshara zone in WoW, plus the Goblin-themed card back in Blizzcon's month of November, has been to theorize a Goblin-themed expansion for Hearthstone being announced at Blizzcon later this week.  We'll have to wait and see come Friday...

Crazy Game Stories

Nikalia

Sup Jocelyn, Dills, & Garrett! Nikalia here with one deeply satisfying game story: KT meets Sylvanas.

The Situation: Ranked Play (13's), Ramp Druid (me) vs. Generic Priest (inner fires, cultists, KT, thoughtsteals...). It's the priest's turn and he has a Dark Cultist (3/4) on board, facing three of my minions:

- Druid of the Claw (whom is 4/4 at this time w/ Taunt),

- Black Knight (4/5)

- Sylvanas (5/5)

Here's what happens:

Priest: -Plays KT (6/8)

-Inner Fire's Dark Cultist (3/4) into a 4/4

-Kills my Druid of the Claw

-Turns KT into a 6/11

-Ends turn, gets Dark Cultist back (3/4)

Druid (ME!):

-Ponders

-Laughs

-Grins wickedly

-Smacks Sylvanas (5/5) into Dark Cultist (3/4), giving KT +3 HP (6/14 now)

-Wrath's Sylvanas (5/2 now), taking KT (6/14) over to my side

-Ends turn, gets Sylvanas back and loving my new 6/14 KT.

...Priest Concedes.

Talk about Satisfying. ^.~

An armored up dead warrior

FOR SCIENCE!!!!  Hello feathered furious fowls. Just played a game against a warlock.  I was down to 1 health and 1 armor and had just gained board control (he started out with flame imp turn one and then demonfired it on turns 2 and 3 making it a 7/6.  I just was unlucky and didn't draw any of my answers for it.).  I had an armor smith, amani berzerker, and cruel taskmaster and he had an empty board and had already used both soulfires, so I think I'm safe. He then uses a hellfire.  The way it resolved was the soulfire dealt 3 damage to everything,  which activated the armor smith, giving me 3 more armor.  Sadly I was dealt the 3 damage before the armor, setting my life total to -1, and putting armor on a dead man still makes him dead :(.

Ya'll are the only reason I look forward to Mondays, or Tuesdays if I am too tired to stay up for the show.

Emails

During the last couple of days I've seen in reddit, hearthstone forums and other places the "hunting of witches/botters". Everyone seems unhappy with the decision except the cynics that say; " I'm happy with what I did and I don't care about my 3 months vacation". The botters want to play and the rest of the people mostly think they should be perma-banned or have the accounts wiped.

For me, the morals of botting is more of a gray area, for example: If I paid a human being for playing with my account every day would that be frowned upon? So instead of doing that, a tool is being used to automate that process. Not only that, today you can still buy accounts with all cards and still gain an "unfair advantage" over non-botters.

Botting is not cheating, as it doesn't bend the rules of the match or anything, you still have a set of cards and a set of rules and follow them. People complain that bots take too long between turns, but that is part of the game, Blizzards sets that amount of time. Bots don't do anything that a person couldn't do.

I personally got banned, I never got a golden portrait, almost only botted in unranked to test run decks and even paid around 150 dollars in packs to increase my collection.

I understand the sanction, as Blizzard is in it for the business and that is what a company is there for. Also there are the terms of service in which it is said that action will be taken against botting although it is not very specific about it, but what I do question the excessive bitterness and aggression that people have against botting. Also, I probably would have spent some money in the game in these 3 months and now I won't be able, so even there they will be missing some dollars.

Finally in my opinion most people won't bot again after the initial ban. I won't bot again, but I don't know if I can continue playing a game in 3 months that I really like but that I couldn't play for so long.

Thanks!

David

Hey TAC crew!

Back when I used to play Decipher's Star Trek TCG competitively, the issue of "inflation" was always a hot topic. The game's first edition ran for a good 10 years and had 15 or so expansions, and in that time there was a definite power creep...while a stat of say 7 was "strong" in the early days, it slowly became "average" to "lackluster" as time went on. And I suppose it makes sense, in your desire to make new and interesting cards it's tempting for new cards to be just a little bit better than what we have so far.

Do you think stat inflation will ever be an issue for Hearthstone?

Your show continues to be the highlight of my week, you guys are the best!

Hello Heated Hens!

Now that a new season is upon us and we are all trying our best to quell the hoard of Hunters, I started thinking about the ban system in tournaments. If we were given the option to ban one class such that we could not be matched up against that class, I know we would all ban Hunter. But if we did that, Hunters would only be matched up against other Hunters. Most would pick up another class and join the rest of us in what could only be described as a more balanced meta, but for the Hunters who just can't play any other class, how do you think their decks would change given a Hunter only mirror meta?
