COPY PASTE 4:

Dear Prime Minister Carney and Minister Anand,

I am writing to you because I am heartbroken at the ongoing devastation in Gaza. I recognize the significant actions that Canada has taken in the past, and I urge more, and bolder actions. Now is the time for Canada to take a stand for peace.

As you continue responding to this crisis, I ask you to:

  1. Use Canada’s diplomatic power to negotiate with other countries and work together to pressure all parties to come to a permanent ceasefire.
  2. Humanitarian aid: I urge you to continue to press Israel to lift the blockade and allow the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, and to protect the role of humanitarian agencies to deliver aid in ways that are fair and uphold international humanitarian law.
  3. Uphold Canada’s commitment to accountability and international law. Hold all parties accountable for following international humanitarian law and respecting the decisions made by the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court.
  4. Ensure that no Canadian weapons or weapons parts are being used in ways that violate international law. Canada should make sure that we are not contributing to this conflict by allowing either direct or indirect weapons exports to any armed actors, including state actors.
  5. Work with the international community to address underlying systems of oppression that create circumstances ripe for violence, including the illegal military occupation of Palestine, the Gaza blockade, lack of equal rights and self-determination and the inability to meet basic needs. I encourage continued support for local peacebuilders, who play a vital role in this current moment.

I urge you to work constructively across party lines and with other countries toward a future where all Palestinians and Israelis can live in peace.

Signed,
