Editor’s Corner

Jai Jinendra,

So much has happened in the last month!  The new committee has hit the ground running under the leadership of Anand Shah.  We have plenty of news to share this month as we set our sights on the upcoming Mahavir Jayanti Program.

Youth Coordinators are busy planning out the stage program.  Many members are beginning to sign up for sponsorship and volunteering for tasks. And the overall program planning is underway with the full attention of the committee.

And there’s lots more to share.  So sit back and read on!

Mahavir Jayanti Celebration

Ready for another exciting event this year?  The bar gets raised higher every time.  This year’s celebration should be no different.  The Mahavir Jayanti Celebration program is scheduled to be on April 20th.  Planning is already underway and all involved are gearing up for another great event.

Mahavir Jayanti is one of the largest events sponsored by JSCNC, is open to everyone and demonstrates the unity and generosity of JAIN community.   As an interesting note, last year’s event attracted approximately 350 participants, volunteers and guests!

The Executive committee puts in a lot of planning to cater for such an event, but your support is what really makes this program a grand success.

Taking part in the stage program is not the only way to participate/support.  We are looking for volunteers and pledgers alike to help in many other ways.  Here are some ways you can help:

  • Pledging  - Please contact Anand Shah if you are interested.  Your support is always appreciated for this auspicious occasion, and for activities throughout the year.
  • Volunteering - there are several categories available -- Stage Decoration, Props, Audio/Video, Food serving & Kitchen cleanup,  and Hall arrangement (chairs/tables prior to dinner).  Please contact Anand Shah or Bhairav Shah if you are interested.  We will also have sign-up sheets available during Monthly meetings prior to the program.

A Great Thank you to all those who have already signed up to volunteer.  To the volunteers, participants and all involved, we humbly ask that you provide your full cooperation to Program Directors and Choreographers.  This will help tremendously to plan and execute this program smoothly.  If there are any issues or concerns, please contact the President, Anand Shah.

Mahavir Jayanti Program Practice

Practices will be held during Pathshala sessions.  As such, there will be no Pathshala until after the Mahavir Jayanti Program.  Please see the Pathshala Corner for complete information.

Pathshala Essay Competition

For the first time ever, the Vardhmaan class has participated in an Essay competition.  The competition is now complete and winners and awards will be announced soon.  We would like to thank Ketan & Neha Kuruwa for their generous sponsorship of the awards for this competition.  For more information on this competition, please visit the Pathshala Corner below.

Pathshala Dues
HSNC mandates that Pathshala dues are paid every year.  It is very important that we compensate HSNC for the use of the Hindu Center facilities for classes.  To that, we thank everyone who have already paid these dues.  However, we are far from being even close to receiving all the dues -- so far, we have received about 20-25% only.

As mentioned in previous emails (Youth Pathshala dues), this year we are asking the dues be paid to JSCNC directly.  We will collect and pass them on to HSNC.  Note that, if you have direct auto-payments to HSNC already for this purpose, you do not have to pay twice.

To make payments, please bring a check (payable to JSCNC) to the Feb 16th Monthly meeting, or mail to Pratyush Mehta.  Full information and instructions can be found at http://jscnc.org/Youth_Pathshala_Dues_2014.php.
