Prerequisites

Basic knowledge in Physics (mechanics, electricity, thermics)

Notions in discrete-time modeling, Z-transforms

Lecture goals

  • Understand the mathematical tools needed for the green technologies,
  • Apply these tools to projects in relation with sustainable development.

Detailed outline

Part 1

  • Introduction to sustainable development and current evolutions in energy management,
  • Mechanics (models based on Euler-Lagrange),
  • Thermics (conduction law, example of a model with finite difference),
  • Electricity (DC motor fed with DC/DC converter)
  • Fluids (expansion valve)
  • Fuel-cell stack

Part 2

  • Parametric identification (ARX, ARMAX, OE, BJ model structures identification)
  • Optimization
  • Case studies : wind energy, solar energy, electric car

Applications

Green technology project (16h)

Examples :

  • Modeling, identification, simulation and optimization of a wind farm or a photovoltaic farm.
  • Study of a smart grid
  • Modeling, identification, simulation and optimization of an hybrid vehicle.

Acquired skills

  • Mathematical modeling of multiphysics systems
  • Handling and conversion of models (state equations, bloc diagram, transfer function)
  • Parametric identification
  • Simulation with Simulink and Modelica
  • Optimization
