ALL THE WAY!
Kerry Willis - January 6, 2021
As 2020 was giving way to 2021, i was blessed to be with my dear Mom — who i lovingly refer to as Lady Melba — at our old Willis home-place on the coastal island of my holy upbringing — Harkers Island, North Carolina.
Whenever Mom and i are together we talk mostly about Jesus and Dad, who is now with Jesus. But we definitely talk more about Jesus. Dad would be glad about that.
Anyway, on one of the mornings we were together, Mom repeated what she had already said to me the evening prior: “Kerry, did i tell you the old hymn that’s been on my mind and on my lips for quite awhile?”
The sacred musical piece she was referring to was written in 1875 by a blind, Jesus-loving, poet-songwriter, yes, The Fanny Crosby. The hymn title? “All the Way My Saviour Leads Me!” [i will share a video rendition of the beloved hymn at the end.]
As we embark “blindly” on a another year, perhaps these words — written by a physically blind author with great spiritual vision who knew how to perfectly pen lyrics of assurance for the lives of other Jesus-believers — will help to lead us forward, onward, even upward with renewed confidence in the Wonderful One Who has led us thus far and will lead us for forever and to forever, yes even “ALL THE WAY!”
The final words of the hallowed hymn are especially clinging to my own soul even now:
“This my song through endless ages, Jesus led me ‘ALL THE WAY!’”
Here now is a YouTube link of the old, classic, faith-strengthening hymn of the church sung in a tender, traditional way:
