Zombor,

14th October 1896

To Mr Fülöp László in Budapest.

Dear Sir,

The citizens of the Royal Free City of Zombor[1] have resolved to commission life size portraits of Their Majesties the King and Queen[2] for the ceremonial hall of the City.

I turn to you, Sir, as a well known and distinguished painter, asking you to let me know as soon as possible whether you would be willing to undertake the City’s commission, and what sort of honorarium you would ask for your work?

The citizens have not yet decided whether they wish to have His Majesty painted in a General’s uniform, or wearing the cloak of St. Stephen.

In your kind reply please also take these alternatives into consideration.

With great respect,

Gyula [Sinlagetter?]

Mayor
