Essential question: Beyond the Constitutional requirement, why do Presidents give a State of the Union Address? How important is the SOTU to the nation?

#6 - The Federalist Papers

Essential questions/big ideas: How could democracy possibly be bad for our country? How does the Constitution effectively spread power both vertically and horizontally? Why is it good to have an independent judiciary?

#10 - USCIS CIVICS EXAM - This standard will be be tested separately. 50 Questions, all fill-in-the-blank. Expect this exam to take place just before Spring Break (most likely Wednesday, April 2).

#11 - Three Branches of Govt and the Powers of Congress

Essential questions/big ideas: How has the power of Congress expanded since the time of the Constitution? Which of the powers of Congress affect you most? Does Congress have too much power?

VOCAB: Preamble, legislative branch, executive branch, judicial branch, “earmark” spending

#12 - America as the Arsenal of Democracy

Should the United States still be considered “the Arsenal of Democracy”? Should we intervene in the Ukraine?
