Facing Stereotypes and Identity

Tomi and his family face discrimination and prejudice throughout the novel, especially after the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

We all make assumptions, have biases, or (unfortunately) hear and react to stereotypes about other people. One way to actively work against these assumptions is to reflect on times we have faced those stereotypes.

Write a story about a time you felt untrue or unfair assumptions were made about you. What were the outcomes of those assumptions? Maybe it was about you because of race or culture, but it could have also been because of:
