Paredes Puma Band Update- October 15, 2018

Fall Concert- Wednesday October 24th, 2018

On Wednesday, October 24th  the Paredes Middle School Bands will be holding our annual FALL CONCERT in the Paredes MS Gym. This event will include all members of the Paredes MS Band Program in grades 6 through 8 and the performance will begin at 6:30 pm. All Beginning Band students must be in their seats ready to rehearse by 6:00 pm. All Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble students must arrive by 6:15 pm. Students will take their instrument and their music from the band hall to the gym. While not performing, all students will sit as a group by the stage. In order to show respect to everybody, all students will be listening to all performing groups. The performance will be completed by approximately 8:00 pm.

Beginning Band students will wear their Paredes Band shirt, jeans, and sneakers.

All beginning band students will need a band shirt. Students are welcome to use one from a previous year if they own one. New shirts can be purchased for $10

Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band students will wear their concert uniforms- Dress or Tuxedo Shirt and Vest (provided by the school),

black pants, black socks, and black shoes (provided by the student)

Students MUST be in attendance for this mandatory performance. Students missing this event will lose their eligibility for our End of Year trip to Six Flags.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! All-District Band Auditions- Saturday, November 3rd

On Saturday, November 3rd the Paredes MS Band will be hosting approximately 500 band students from across the greater Austin area for all-district auditions. This is a great privilege for our campus, but with great privilege comes great responsibility. We are in need of significant help from our parents in running our event smoothly. If you have any availability and are willing to help us anytime between 7:00 am and 3:00 pm your assistance would be much appreciated.

Grades/Practice Logs

Progress report grades close this Friday, October 19. Our program takes great pride in the academic success of our students. To that end, we are always willing to assist students with tutoring or homework assistance. Please don’t hesitate to ask for help.

All beginning band classes have begun requiring practice logs, a weekly documentation of student practice outside of the classroom. These are due every Tuesday and must be signed by a parent in order to receive credit. A digital copy can be found here: Practice Logs

Private Lessons

Paredes is proud to offer private lessons instruction on all instruments. Private lessons allow students to get 1 on 1 attention from an expert on their instrument. This will give students a substantial advantage for meeting class expectations, making our most advanced bands at both Paredes and Akins, and thriving in events like all region auditions.

Private lessons do require a financial commitment from a parent. Lessons are generally $20 per week for a 30 minute session, but occasionally vary slightly depending on teacher. Lessons will generally take place either during a student’s band class or after school, depending upon student and teacher availability. If you are interested and willing to make the commitment, please contact me at your earliest convenience.

Our Band uses our website, as our primary hub of information. Here you can find updated lesson plans, a calendar, and digital copies of the papers we give your students. This is a great way to stay informed.

We will do everything in our power to provide our students with everything needed for our program. We would strongly suggest that students playing flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and percussion purchase their own instrument. This not only provides students with more ownership of their participation in our program, but will also better prepare them for the Akins HS Eagle Band. Preferred brands and models can be found here-

Paredes Band Supply List. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Mr. Hefler before making a purchase.
