Description:
This course is organized into a series of journeys. In each unit of the course, students embark on a new journey. Through the study of literature, nonfiction, and life, students will explore the unknown, search for identity and equality, and seek achievement, opportunity, and understanding. Students will read to analyze the way language is used to express human motivation and will research to examine the results of actions in the real world. The lessons in each module will give students the tools they need to gain insights from what is read and to use knowledge in creative and analytical writing.
Iowa Core Skills or Standards:
College and Career Readiness Standards for Reading (Informational Text, Reading), Listening, Speaking, and Writing in accordance with 9th and 10th grade Iowa Core.
Why it Matters:
Successful learners and employees are effective communicators. This includes reading, writing, listening, viewing, and speaking. Students will learn to use the English language to successfully express themselves.
