Criteria #1:

Student writes an essay accurately and effectively summarizes the author’s central argument.

Criteria #2:

Student writes an essay that offers a critical assessment of the article, evaluating the effectiveness of the author’s argument, its use of disability history methods, and effective re-reading of the past (e.g. how does the text contribute to the historiography of the topic that is the central focus on the article or chapter?).

Criteria #3:

Student writes essay in a manner that employs the elements of a strong writing style—clear editing, accurate spelling and grammar, proper academic tone, effective structure, proper source citation, etc.
