PLUS ONE - CAT Values - TEAM CORE VALUES
IT IS A PRIVILEGE TO BE A PART OF THE CASTLE VIEW FOOTBALL TEAM, NOT A RIGHT.
Castle view coaches will:
Each player will be treated fairly although each player may be handled differently.
Uniform / Tardy Violation
1st Offense – A player will OTI before/after practice, with their position coach.
2nd Offense – A player will OTI before/after practice, with their position group and position coach.
Behavior Violation
3rd Offense – A player will not practice. Player is also not eligible to start the game.
4th Offense -- A player will not suit up for a game.
5th Offense – Further Disciplinary action by Coach Martin and possible dismissal from the team
BEHAVIOR that VIOLATES TEAM RULES:
Phones are not allowed in the weight room, meeting rooms, sideline (practice or games)
The primary mission of Castle View is to prepare students for college and ensure that each student graduates. To assist in this mission each position coach, along with the academic support coach on the staff will take a very proactive approach to monitor the progress of each student-athlete.
Class attendance and effort are expected from each student–athlete.
No Tardies. Tardies to class = tardy to practice. See above.
You must maintain acceptable grades to remain in good standing. No Fs - You will be ineligible. You won’t suit up. Two Ds - You can’t start.
Respect every coach, trainer, and person in this program.
Every coach in this program will be referred to as “Coach”.
Never talk back to any coach or trainer. Disagreements are a part of life. If you disagree with any situation, be an adult and set up a meeting and get things resolved.
PRACTICE RULE
We win football games because of the way we practice. Every day you step on to the practice field you have one goal; to get better (+1) at your position which in turn makes us a better team.
4-Practice Week: Game Eligibility - One miss during game week may result in loss of starting position. Cannot miss more than TWO practices per week to suit up for the game.
5-Practice Week: Game Eligibility - One miss during game week may result in loss of starting position. Cannot miss more than THREE practices per week to suit up for the game.
The following rules are applied to every single practice:
1. No one misses practice or meetings unless there is a class conflict that has been brought to Coach Martin’s attention. 2. You are expected to be on time! Coming prepared and being prompt and ready to go are qualities you must have.
3. If an emergency arises that would cause you to miss or be late to practice or a meeting you must text/call your position coach, or coordinator, prior to the practice or meeting. If you do not, this counts as a missed practice.
4. All injuries must be handled before meetings and after practice with appropriate treatment. If you are injured and do not seek treatment, or miss a scheduled treatment, you will practice.
5. Everyone should be taped or braced (ankles) before the Team Stretch period of every practice. It is recommended offensive linemen have knee braces for every practice.
6. Use of profanity is highly discouraged.
7. All players will have an offensive and defensive position and will practice at both positions throughout the season.
8. When the whistle blows for practice you’re locked in and prepared to work.
Fighting will result in expulsion from practice.
Being a football player automatically puts you on display to the public regardless of if it is in an organized function or not, so always think of being a class individual in every situation. Date Rape and Sexual Abuse are very serious criminal acts. These crimes are punishable by law and up to 30 years in jail. Take time before you act. Do not put yourself in a NO-WIN situation.
Keep these statements in mind:
** Believe that NO means NO; even if you think she means yes.
** It is never right to force a female to do something she doesn’t want to do – no excuses.
** A girl never owes you sex – no excuses..
** Never initiate sexual intercourse if the girl is intoxicated or passed out. Alcohol and drugs were a factor in over 75% of date rapes and sexually violent acts nationwide. In a court of law this will fall under rape, your intoxication is not a defense for your actions. You will be charged.
**It is NEVER OK to strike a female. Punching, hitting, kicking, striking with an object, etc. is NEVER OK. It is ALWAYS best to walk away from any situation in which you may be tempted to strike a female. Regardless of the situation, you will be wrong, and you will have to live with the consequences for striking a female.
During your time here at Castle View HS, you will have the opportunity to attend many different functions. By doing so, you can paint a picture of class and good will. Be selective of the events, establishments, parties, etc., that you choose to attend. Be equally as selective about the company that you keep. Because you are a Castle View football player, you may get invited to more than a typical share of events and parties. These events and parties may have activities going on that may not help you become the best version of you that you can possibly be.
Just remember, as a member of the CV football team, you have much more to lose if the party goes badly.
Hazing shall be defined as any activity/action by a team member of the Castle View Football team against another team member may cause harm or the risk of harm to that team member's mental or physical health. Hazing includes, but is not limited to, any act or activity which causes or might be reasonably expected to cause fear or intimidation, extended deprivation of sleep or rest, forced consumption of any substance, physical exhaustion, physical harm or damage to property. Hazing is prohibited in the Castle View Football Program.
DISCRETION
Any time a disciplinary situation arises, there are a unique set of circumstances surrounding those involved. As an observer, you may or may not know or understand what else is involved. If it is important for the entire team to know, I will make sure you know. If the situation is more sensitive than that, you will have to trust that I have not only the best interest of the team in mind, but the best interest of the individual involved as well.
1. Helmets: Helmets, Shorts and T-shirts. Proper footwear.
2. Shells: Helmet & Shoulder Pads. Girdle under shorts. Proper footwear.
3. Full: Full Pads. Proper footwear.
Practice Field: Players will always run on and off the field. Once you step on the practice field - hustle at all times.
Stretch (Conditioning): Focused on the task at hand. This is not the time to joke around.
COACHES: There will not be one coach involved and others not. This is not time to talk to other coaches – spend time with your players. Each coach is responsible to coach stretch/conditioning with the same importance and passion as their individual sessions.
Teach Tempo vs. Game Tempo: Players and coaches need to understand the difference.
Teach Tempo: Individual drills and team situations apart from the Offense/Defense. Very crisp, sharp, intense part of the practice, however, not the same as true competition against the Offense/Defense.
Game Tempo: Any competitive drill vs. the Offense/Defense. There will be a noticeable difference in intensity by the players as well as the coach.
Additional Practice Tempo’s:
7 on 7 / Inside Run: Extremely fast tempo with a lot of repetition. Stress the defense and force them to get aligned. Offensive players run until the whistle and players without the football work to get in position to make a block (Absolutely no cheap shots on or by defensive players). Premium placed on effort after the catch and ball security. Hustle back for the next huddle. Defensive players are to make a play on a thrown ball, but absolutely no cheap shots on receivers, however, re-direct and collision receivers as necessary. Premium placed on pursuit and leverage on the ball. All seven defenders moving to the ball; break on the ball. No Tackling (to ground). STAY UP.
Team Offense vs. Defense; Pads (Thud or Wrap): Live up front and live downfield. No tackling of the backs/receivers and absolutely no cutting of defensive players. STAY UP. In a position to make a tackle and then tag the ball carrier.
Scrimmage Situation: LIVE! Tackling backs/receivers allowed. Do not cut.
***The Quarterback is NOT to be touched in any drill.

Mouth pieces are required at all practices that include a helmet. No Exceptions.
On Game Day, your jersey will be tucked in. Your helmet will be clean of scuff marks. Your shoes will be clean. Badly tattered helmet decals will be replaced.
This area is a reflection of our team, keep it clean. Keep your specific location clean and neat.
Respect other people’s property
Don’t leave food or drinks around your area. Put what belongs in the trash in the trash
All personal and football items belong in your locker, not on the floor.
Clean your shoes outside prior to entering the locker room.
No cleats of any type (clean or dirty) will be allowed outside of the locker room area to the practice fields. Do not wear your cleats into the meeting room areas.
Drugs, alcohol, and tobacco are prohibited everywhere. (1st violation is 10% of the season, 2nd violation is removal from team)
LOCK UP VALUABLES before leaving the locker room. Stealing from a teammate will result in appropriate school regulated punishment.
Top two FAMILY leaders are responsible for their area/aisle. If that aisle is not taken care of, that entire row will be given extra conditioning and that FAMILY Leader will be removed.
Players are not allowed inside the equipment room unless accompanied by a coach or equipment manager.
Report any problems with equipment right away. Don’t wait until just before practice.
Make sure all your equipment fits properly. Have the equipment manager check all issued gear.
Take a periodical check on your equipment making sure it is in sound condition. Confer with your position coach on this.
Do not alter any piece of equipment. All alterations will be done by the equipment manager.
The uniform of the day will be announced. The uniform must be worn in total. Everyone will wear the same uniform. WE ARE A TEAM!
Treat everyone in the equipment shed with respect.
NO OTHER PROGRAM WILL TAKE BETTER CARE OF THE WEIGHT ROOM THAN THE FOOTBALL TEAM; THIS IS WHERE CHAMPIONS ARE MADE.
All weight training programs are mandatory and only the Head Coach or Director of Performance can excuse you!
Training programs will be prescribed by the Director of Performance and are to be completed as prescribed. Deviations of the program must go through the Performance Coach only.
Be on time; prepared for hard work only, anything less will not be tolerated.
Hurt guys will work out. Injured guys must be actively rehabbing their injuries.
Skipping workouts results in a missed practice.
Proper workout attire must always be worn. Socks and athletic shoes, no sandals!
No cell phones.
Rack all plates after use, do not lay or lean any plates against walls or machines.
No personal music devices when in mandatory weight sessions. The Coach in charge will decide what music will be played.
No sitting or excessive visiting.
When applicable, spray down and sanitize the equipment after use.
Do not drop or throw weights or dumbbells.
Bumper plates are required to stay on the platforms for all power exercises.
All personal items are to be hung outside the weight room.
The Training Rooms are for recovery, injury treatment, and the prevention of injuries. We have a training room that is open every day for student-athletes. The times will be posted each day. Take advantage of treatment and use everything that is provided to you in athletic training to keep yourself on the field.
Always show respect and courtesy to the Training Staff.
If you need treatment, be on time and do not miss.
If you are not seeking treatment you will practice.
Maintain proper hygiene before you have treatment.
Get in and get out, our training rooms don’t have enough room to hang out and visit.
Pick up all trash (ice bags, tape, etc.…).
INJURIES AND TREATMENTS
If you are injured and not able to dress in full gear, you will be required to attend all scheduled meetings and practices. The trainer will determine the dress for injured players.
For proper care, prevention, and treatment of an injury, be honest both with the coaches and trainer.
Report every injury regardless of how small.
Treatment is considered the same as practice – required.
All injured players must be in treatment on the designated training room times following a game.
You cannot lose your position due to an injury up to a point. That point is when your replacement is performing at a higher level than you were performing at or before the injury. To keep this an objective decision, the position coach, coordinator and head coach must agree that the replacement is performing at a higher level than the injured player.
We practice at times in very hot weather. We must always be aware of hydration.
What is Hydration?
Water is crucial to our survival. Because our body is made up of 60% (the brain = 80%) water, it is important to be aware of our body’s need for hydration. Our body needs hydration for the following functions:
• It acts as a solvent for nutrients.
• It aids in digestion and absorption.
• It transports materials throughout the body.
• It eliminates toxins and waste products.
• It regulates body temperature.
• It is used for energy production.
There is not one system in the entire body that does not depend on water and require hydration. It is recommended that the average individual take in 64 ounces of water per day minimum. That number jumps to 10 on hot days or in hot climates.
When we sweat, we lose both water and salt. Thus, sweating can also make us dehydrated. Thirst is not an indicator of fluid needs. By the time an athlete feels thirsty, dehydration is already occurring.
Rehydrate: Consume 20-24 oz. (2.5-3 cups) per pound of body weight (sweat) lost.
FOOD - Being your best takes time, training, and patience, but that’s not all. Like a car, your body won’t run without the right fuel. You must take special care to get enough of the calories, vitamins, and other nutrients that provide energy.
Repair: Consume 20-40 grams of high-quality protein (e.g., meat, fish, eggs or dairy) within one hour of training to maximize muscle growth and repair.
SLEEP - Elite athletes are encouraged to get at least nine hours of sleep nightly and to treat sleep with as much importance as athletic training and diet.
YOU WILL: Bring proper hydration and nutrition materials. Sleep when you can.
WE WILL: Remind you to bring proper hydration and nutrition materials to school. Provide periods conducive to rest.
When we travel, we are traveling for one reason: to win a football game. We will focus all our energies on being our best at everything we do. Everything Castle View can do to meet these goals will be done.
Bus Trips: The entire travel team will be required to travel on the bus to and from the destination.
If you decide to not travel back with the team your parent/guardian must sign a letter or note (QR Code) confirming you are under their care and responsibility. You must travel back with your parent/guardian, not a teammate’s parent or relative.
Be respectful of your teammates and coaches on the bus.
Squad Dress: When we travel, we will post the dress on your itinerary for each day and function. Some of our travel is lengthy so we will travel with Dress Code Comfortable (issued travel sweats and gear). WE WILL ALL DRESS THE SAME, THERE WILL BE NO INDIVIDUALS. Make sure before we depart you have all your issued gear.
Meetings: In the case of overnight travel, we will have a minimum amount of time to meet; it is your responsibility to be on time. All squad or segment meetings will be scheduled prior to the trip and on your itinerary. If your coordinator changes the meeting time, a text to your group will be sent, it is your responsibility to be there and on time. Make sure you know when and where you will be meeting when we arrive at the hotel.
Bed Check: Bed check will be posted on your itinerary. Your position coach is responsible for bed check. Make sure you are in your room at the posted time, being late could result in not playing.
Meals: All team meals are mandatory unless posted. Be on time. No guests are allowed at team meals without the prior approval of Coach Martin. Be courteous of your teammates and keep any conversations down. The order of how we eat will be determined by our leadership committee. The exception to the order will be game day and the training staff will lead off the meal.
Visiting Guests: Players are not allowed to entertain guests in their rooms. All guests are to be met and entertained in the lobby. If you want to see your relatives outside of the hotel, please check with Coach Martin prior to seeing them.
Room Service: There is no room service.
Movies: Pay-per-View in room movies are prohibited.
Behavior: Maintain a disciplined, mature, organized approach to victory. Display the poise and pride we have developed through our hard work and sacrifices which has put us in a position to win every game. DO WHAT IS RIGHT. Act like a class organization in every respect.
Hotel: Coach Martin is responsible for all hotel accommodations. If your relatives would like to know where we are staying, please contact Coach Martin.
BE ON TIME: Being late at any time puts the entire travel party in jeopardy of coming away with a loss. If the itinerary says a certain time, be in your seat when that time arrives. If you are early, you are on time. If you are on time, you are late. If you are late, you may be fired!
PLAYERS’ DRESS CODE
DRESS CODE FORMAL: Tie and dress shirt with collar and shoes with socks, dress slacks, no jeans. No baseball caps worn at any time.

NEVER Lose your Cool
Officials Officiate, Coaches Coach, Players Play
Our Pregame warmup is important – Take Pride In It
No Earrings or other jewelry.
Captains, always look to the bench on penalties
Do not trash talk an opponent. We are better than that. The scoreboard does ALL the talking
Never remove your helmet while on the field of play
Encourage your teammates and help them off the ground
Remember – Momentum will always come and go
Never come off the field unless someone comes in for you and taps you out
Stay in your designated area on the sideline. There is NO excuse for a sideline violation during the game. The view is the same from 3 feet back.
Never go on the field unless sent out by a coach
If you are hurt, make every attempt to shake it off and keep playing.
If you are injured, stay down and our trainers will tend to you on the field until it is safe to take you off the field.
Always run on and off the field
Play with GREAT enthusiasm and celebrate with your teammates
At the conclusion of the game, shake hands with the opponent and get to the team huddle. Location may vary, but we will always meet briefly as a team after the game.
Please do not have your parents, guardians or personal coaches call/email regarding your playing time here at Castle View.
If you have specific questions regarding playing time, you need to first talk to your position coach and then your specific coordinator if the issue is still not resolved.
If this second meeting has not resolved the issue, at that point you may schedule a meeting to sit down and talk to me as the head coach.
Keep in mind, in all of the years that I have coached football, I have yet to see a coach at any level put an inferior player on the field while a quality player that can help us win sits on the bench. Your coaches here are no different.
SPECIAL SITUATIONS
Report all problems to Coach Martin immediately. If any problem occurs it’s your responsibility to contact Coach Martin as soon as possible. For emergency purposes and problems off the field I need to know the situation in order to take the appropriate action. You should all have my contact information.
The Castle View Football Program is very demanding and is not for every student athlete. We make this program demanding and tough because we want individuals who will do everything possible to make CV Football team members winners on and off the field. If you feel you no longer can be a productive member of this program you need to visit with Coach Martin before you make your final decision. Nothing will be held against you in any way if you make the decision to no longer participate with our program.
Understand that if you quit you will return all items that were issued to you from the CV Football Program. Our budget does not allow us to replace gear that is already paid for that our current and future players may use. It is your responsibility to return all gear immediately to the football office and lock any items you have a question about away in your locker. These items not only include clothing but all Playbooks and workout gear.
If you decide to keep the items you were issued, you will have a hold placed on your transcripts in the CV Athletics and Activities Office. This means that you will not receive your grades or any official transcripts until the items are returned or paid for. No exceptions.

Pads $125.00
Practice Pants $20.00

We have outstanding fan support from the local community, your fellow students and the extended community which includes family and alumni among others. Their support of our program is needed and appreciated. High School athletic programs would not exist without them. We want you to always be courteous and appreciative of the support these people provide. However, CHSAA rules prohibit you from taking or receiving any financial gift or benefit. Do not jeopardize your team for outside gifts. If there is ever a questionable situation, please contact Coach Martin or the athletic administration for clarity.
While in high school, your spiritual growth is as relevant as your academic and athletic growth, if not more so. As a man, as a future husband, father, leader, and teammate, this is yet another critical element of your life and should also be growing while in high school. As a coaching staff, we support all beliefs with regards to faith.
“What is said in the Locker Room, STAYS in the Locker Room.” With this said, it should also be known that the “Locker Room” would also include the practice field, the game field, the weight room, meeting rooms, coaches’ offices and even the travel buses.
Our business is OUR business. It is not for your buddy, girlfriend, family members or the social media world. The Castle View Football Team is a Family, and we will handle all situations internally to the best of our ability. Nothing positive can happen from venting on these sites. We ask that you use discretion when using Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and other social media sites.
Anything you post will reflect not only on yourself, but on your family, friends and this Football Program. Please show respect for yourself in addition to those close to you.
As you will soon find out, Family is extremely important to me. I want Family to be important to you also. Whenever your family is on campus, feel free to bring them by my office as I would love to visit with them and get to know them better, maybe even talk you up as well.
Appreciate Them, Thank Them, Acknowledge Them (Before or after the game), Always be gracious of their support.
Give them a reason to be excited about and support Castle View Football!
The Head Coach is the ultimate decision maker for the football program. With that being said, I will hire and continue to hire staff members and assistant coaches who I have tremendous trust in and respect for. The assistant coaches in this program are empowered by me to always do what is best for Castle View Football
No guests are not allowed in our locker room or team bus unless cleared by the coaching staff.
The locker room, bus, etc. belongs to the team.
As a program, we want to keep a strong relationship with your outside coach if you deem it important to have such a coach. As a part of that, always remember they are not part of the Castle View Football staff and will not have influence over playing time, schemes, or program philosophy.
At times, you may be asked to speak to the media. Be guarded by what you say. Once it is out there, you cannot take it back. Speak honestly and humbly about you and your performance.
When speaking about teammates and coaches, be positive. When speaking about our team’s performance, whether it was good or poor, be cautious and don’t get backed into a corner.
Responses like “We are a work in progress”, “We will be better tomorrow” or “We still have work to do” will work for most interviews. In all situations, do NOT comment on something you are not comfortable with.
Always be respectful of the media, regardless of the situation. Do not act like you are doing them a favor. In fact, they are doing us a favor by getting the word of Castle View Football out to many. Never address them by first name, but rather address them formally, ex., Mr. Smith.
Using terms like ma’am or sir is always appropriate as well.
IT IS A PRIVILEGE TO BE A PART OF THE CASTLE VIEW FOOTBALL TEAM, NOT A RIGHT.
I will respect the team rules and standards.
