RESEARCH INTEREST AND OBJECTIVES

 

My research interests revolve around ceramic composites, analytical chemistry and environmental chemistry. I have completed my graduate (M.S) thesis that deals with the formation of ceramic composite from nano material. This research work also aims to apply the composite in the structural field. I also have a keen interest in studying sources, distributions and fate of organic and inorganic pollutants deriving from agricultural practices, pharmaceutical, textile and dyeing industries in addition to developing their cheap treatment procedures.

GRADUATE RESEARCH

 

I have completed my graduate research entitled ‘Preparation, characterization and application of Yttria stabilized tetragonal Zirconia ceramics for Optical ferrule’ under the direct supervision of Dr. Md. Zahangir Alam (Professor, Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, University of Dhaka) and Dr. Md. Abdul Gafur (Senior Scientific Officer, Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-BCSIR). The research was carried out in Pilot Plant and Process Development Centre (PP & PDC), BCSIR. Yttria stabilized tetragonal zirconia generates great interest in the field of structural ceramics due to its superior strength, toughness and wear resistance. In this study, Yttria stabilized tetragonal zirconia (YSTZ) ceramics were prepared and compared with two other different compositions. These three different compositions were sintered at different temperatures to find out the most favorable sintering temperature which best represents the tetragonality and good mechanical properties for application as optical ferrule. I was awarded the National Science and Technology Fellowship for this research in 2012.

WORKING EXPERIENCE

 

I am currently employed as research fellow at Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR) from May, 2014. I am working on the project entitled “Production of Glass-Ceramic from waste materials (incinerator fly ash, waste glass powder etc)” at Institute of Glass and Ceramic Research and Testing (IGCRT). Conversion of incinerated ash and waste glass into stable glass is an attractive technology for waste treatment, because it can achieve large waste volume reductions, can destroy organic compounds more effectively and create a durable way in using waste materials. Utilization of this technology aims for products of higher quality and optimized properties.
