Dear Mr. de Laszlo:
Thank you for your courtesy in sending me the Illustrated Art Supplement of Figaro.[1]
Your portrait of the Marquise de Merito [13322] on the cover is exquisitely done. Your subject is a beautiful woman. You have brought out the lovely contrast between her black eyes and hair and her clear complexion and the rippling, white folds of her dress. The picture is a notable work of art. Doubtless the original is even more beautiful than the reproduction.
Although the photograph of your portrait of Marshal Lyautey [6118] shows it only in black and white, your remarkable ability to catch the life-like expression of your subjects is easily seen. The fine features of the Marshal and his soldierly bearing are skilfully portrayed.
Painting his portrait must have been equally as inspiring as painting that of the Marquise.
Your thoughtfulness in giving me the pleasure of seeing your work is greatly appreciated.
Mr. and Mrs. Ochs are delighted with their portraits [6480][6486].
With regards, | Sincerely yours,
Louis Wiley
