Bitcoin Airdrop Sponsorship Package
McGill University, located in Montreal, is one of the largest and most well regarded universities both nationally and internationally, and produces top class professionals in various fields. However, many of the students who are interested in learning more about Bitcoin lack the resources and incentives necessary to further inform themselves on what Bitcoin is and how to use it. In an attempt to garner interest in the budding cryptocurrency and promote its use on campus, the McGill Cryptocurrency and the Bitcoin Embassy have joined forces to carry out an educational and promotional campaign in the form of a “Bitcoin Airdrop” on campus.
In this package we will cover:
1. What is the Bitcoin Airdrop?
2. What do we hope to accomplish with this Airdrop?
3. Operating procedure
4. Why do we need your sponsorship?
5. What you will receive in return for your sponsorship
What is the Bitcoin Airdrop?
The premise behind the Airdrop is simply that the best way to promote active use of Bitcoin on campus is by giving free bitcoins to a large amount of students on the McGill campus. A similar project was run at MIT, where any student was able to sign up for the Airdrop and receive $100 worth of bitcoin.
Our goal is notably smaller; we intend to raise $3000 - $6000 in sponsorship funding and use these funds to create and distribute paper wallets loaded with $10 worth of bitcoins each. The amount of wallets we create and distribute will scale with the amount of sponsorship and we expect to distribute somewhere between 300 to 600 wallets. Each wallet will come with an educational package prepared with the help of the Bitcoin Embassy – answering questions like “What is bitcoin?”, “How can I store/buy more bitcoin?”, and “Where can I spend my bitcoin?”
What do we hope to accomplish?
One of the McGill Cryptocurrency Club main objectives is to raise awareness of Bitcoin and grow the cryptocurrency community both within McGill and - with the help of the Bitcoin Embassy - throughout Montreal.
From our own club’s statistics we already know there to be a strong initial interest in cryptocurrency, and we believe there is potential for huge growth as more students are educated on the subject. Our hope is that by running an airdrop, we will bring more students from the informational and communal fringe and bring them into the heart of the community (or at least closer to it). This will not only promote the club and cryptocurrency community within McGill but will also help students step into the greater local and international community.
We expect the event to receive media attention, and welcome the prospect as it will no doubt help harvest even more attention for the club, the Embassy, the event sponsors, and Bitcoin itself.
Operating Procedure
The procedure for running this event will be as follows:
I. Pre Event
a. Set up secure multi-signature bitcoin wallet to receive funds
b. Approach sponsors for funding
c. Create paper wallets and educational package
d. Book location for airdrop at McGill
i. We will have tables in high traffic areas, ensuring large visibility for the event.
e. Promote the event
i. Much of the promotion will be done via our Facebook page, the Bitcoin Embassy’s public relations resources and help from volunteers of our local Bitcoin community.
II. At the event
a. 2 tables, one for receiving the wallet, another for questions or club sign-up
i. At the second table students can ask to receive any additional information about the airdrop, Bitcoin, the Embassy, and/or sponsoring companies. Students will also be able to sign up for the club if they wish to.
b. We record their email to avoid double pick up
i. Recording their email also allows us to conduct a follow up survey as an additional gauge of effect
c. Load up $10 worth of bitcoin onto paper wallet’s public key
i. The wallet is constructed such that the public key is visible for us to load funds on and/or for the student to check the balance. The private key is hidden from sight. The students will have instructions regarding how to create their own wallet and import their bitcoins.
d. Give the wallet to the person and direct them to the next table for questions
e. Rinse and repeat
III. Post event
a. Follow up survey
i. The follow up survey will be used as an additional measure of how effective the airdrop was in promoting adoption.
ii. Results of the survey and a debriefing will be sent to the sponsors.
b. Reclaim un-redeemed bitcoin
i. We will keep a copy of all the private keys.
ii. We will tell students that they have 30 days to transfer the bitcoins to their own wallet.
iii. After 30 days, we will sweep the private keys such that any unclaimed bitcoin will be put to use for further Bitcoin educational and promotional projects.
iv. Clear instructions will be included in the educational package (see Annex).
c. Announcements on Facebook, Reddit, Twitter
i. After the event, we plan on publishing the results from our social media presence. We also hope to conduct an AMA on Reddit (AMA stands for Ask Me Anything)
Why do we need you?
It should be clear by now that we intend to raise money for this event through sponsorship. We believe a “from the community, for the community” approach is best in this situation and we know that large Bitcoin-related organisations and companies will always share our common goals of raising awareness and growing the community.
We hope to make this one of the largest bitcoin giveaways, and with your sponsorship, you can directly affect how many wallets we give away. All the money we raise will go towards:
1. Production costs for the wallets
2. The content of the wallets (BTC)
The more money we raise, the bigger the event will be. We plan to have the event covered by mass media channels to raise awareness of it on a broader scale (so that even students who did not hear about it directly from us will still know it happened). Given the nature of the event and the media network of our partners at the Bitcoin Embassy, we expect that many local news sources will cover it at no extra cost to us. Your sponsorship, and the sponsorship of other pillars in the Bitcoin community, will raise the credibility of the Airdrop in the eyes of the media and its readers/viewers.
What do you get in return?
In return for your sponsorship, space will be allocated on the paper wallet for your logo, crediting you as part of the team to have brought the Airdrop to McGill. In addition, we will answer any questions students may have about your company at our information table. This initiative will be seeding bitcoin into the McGill community and will cause a stir in a wider audience. As a sponsor, you can expect some of the attention to be directed towards you and we hope for the event to help raise awareness of your organisation.
When pledging sponsorship we have come up with two options for you:
1) Regular sponsorship: A $750 USD pledge, which gives you the following benefits:
· 4cm x 4cm logo space on the envelope containing the paper wallet and educational package
2) Premium sponsorship A $1500 USD pledge, which gives you the following benefits:
· A 10cm x 6cm logo space on the envelope containing the paper wallet and educational package and the possibility of text up to 200 characters in that space (or however the space allows).
· Mention of your sponsorship in the press release and other press-related documents
· Mention of your sponsorship in the Bitcoin Embassy newsletter (950 subscribers)
· Half the space of a promotional one-pager reserved for premium sponsors
· Possibility of negotiable extra perks depending on your business model
Logo space layout
There will be 6 available space for the regular sponsors to showcase their logos on the front side of the enveloppe. We will be flexible according to the specific design of your company’s logo.
The premium sponsors will have a larger space allocated on the back of the envelope, which is where the recipients will be opening the envelope from.
If you are looking for something other than these two options, we can try and find something that better suits you.
Thank you for taking the time to read through this package, if you have any further questions or simply want to know more about what we do, our contact information can be found below. We look forward to a successful and fruitful event and wish you the best of luck in your ventures.
