In August 2021, the Israeli government plans to continue its ethnic cleansing across all of Palestine by forcing Palestinians out of their homes in the Jerusalem neighborhoods of Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan, and beyond. Together we rise up for the Month of Action.

The Palestinian people remain steadfast in their resistance, refusing to be uprooted from their homeland, even as Israeli murder of Palestinians accelerates. For decades, the U.S. has funded this violence, and now in solidarity with a continuing, historic Palestinian uprising of unity against Israel’s colonialism, we in the U.S. have a role to rise with them. Rise up in solidarity with the steadfast Palestinian people and demand an end to U.S. military funding to Israel, and don’t let up until reps support H.R. 2590 as a bare minimum.

Until there’s justice for Palestinians to stay in their homes, we won’t allow peace and quiet for Congress in their homes & home districts. Use this toolkit to up the pressure, starting with:

Here’s how you can tell the story of why we’re moving to action this August:

  1. Explain the crisis moment: In August, the Israeli government plans to continue its ethnic cleansing across all of Palestine by forcibly pushing Palestinians out of their homes in the Jerusalem neighborhoods of Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan. The Palestinian people remain steadfast in their resistance, refusing to be uprooted from their homeland. For decades, the U.S. has funded this violence, and now in solidarity with a continuing, historic Palestinian uprising of unity against Israel’s colonialism, we in the U.S. have a role to rise with them.
  2. Contextualize and historicize today’s struggles in Jerusalem: This moment in Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan is not an exception — it is part of Israel’s decades-long process of the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people, including an explicit Israeli plan to violently dispossess Palestinians in Jerusalem from the city they have lived in for generations, in order to maintain a 70% Jewish majority.
  3. Define U.S. complicity: U.S. political leaders uphold Israeli ethnic cleansing: they fund this violence with $3.8 billion of our taxpayer dollars each year and defend it by blocking 43 resolutions at the UN.
  4. Demand justice: No justice, no peace, for the US Congress. This August, with Congress working in their home districts and Israel escalating demolitions of Palestinian homes, demand Congress end the U.S. military funding that’s fueling ethnic cleansing. People power can force Democratic leadership to align with the will of the people they represent, who support the Palestinian people’s struggle for justice by a large margin.
