W. Gilchrist Macbeth, Esq.,

Dunira,

Comrie, Perthshire.

20th October, 1932.

Dear Mr. Macbeth,

When I was in Scotland Mr. Robertson[1] handed me over the photograph of your children, which I am now returning herewith.

Judging from the photograph they would make a delightful group, which I hear you would like me to paint.

I have been so much away from home this summer that I much regret I cannot make any promise to avail myself of your kind invitation to stay with you and enjoy some sport and paint the portrait there, which I would very much have liked to do. I am so busy during the whole of the rest of this year that I will be obliged to postpone it, but I hope, if convenient to you, to be able to do it early next year.[2] Meanwhile probably I may have the opportunity to see you and Mrs. Macbeth[3] here, and of course if you could arrange it I could paint the portrait here.

I would be very glad to hear from you about your desires regarding the portrait.

I greatly regret that the portrait of Mrs. Macbeth [3921] was not included in the Exhibition at Dundee,[4] it would certainly have added to the interest. We had a very delightful two days there, and I feel very happy to know that the citizens of Dundee and the people of the surrounding country take so warm an interest in my work.

Kindly remember me to Mrs. Macbeth. Looking forward to the pleasure of hearing from you.

I am, | Yours sincerely,
