Correction from last week: the community consensus is that the pity timer IS expansion-specific.

HCT Spring to Shanghai!
Starting Friday, July 7th the Spring Championship will be taking place at the Silver Hall of the Expo Center in Shanghai, China.
16 players comprised of the top 4 from each region’s Spring Playoff will compete. The Group stage matches will take place on Friday and Saturday, with Sunday focusing on the playoff bracket.
The total prize pool for the Spring Championship is $250,000 USD.
I’ll be helping out at the HCT Spring Playoffs, hosted by Florida Fireside at the Buffalo Wild Wings on Badlands Drive in Brandon next weekend.
Also, while you should totally come out to the Fireside the weekend of the 27th. Damn if if forcing Buffalo Wild Wings as the venue isn’t the worst idea ever. Anyone listening within the sound of my voice that had a hand in this decision, NO ONE IS HAPPY ABOUT IT. Mixing Firesides and Championship Qualifiers is a great idea. Forcing Firesides away from their usual venues to host both a Fireside AND a Qualifier venue at a sports bar? You’re breaking something that was working perfectly fine.

I used to play Hearthstone with my brother. We loved it until it got too expensive for him (on principle). He’s now discouraged to play with me as I’m several expansions ahead of him because I kept buying packs. What do you all think about a type of friend battle mode where you can only select cards that both players have in his or her collection?
Alternatively, I would still love to see a game mode where you can select which expansions you allow. This would not only allow you to be on the same page, but imagine being able to allow earlier expansions and later expansions while disallowing middle expansions. For example, you could see weird things like allowing Ungoro and Goblins vs Gnomes, but not Gadgetzan or Old Gods, etc.
I realize that with a friend you could do the honor system and just say which expansions you’re using, but this isn’t quite what I’m going for. What do you think of a game mode that either allows you and your friend’s common collection cards or instead of that, allows you to choose which expansions are or are not allowed?

Greetings Mad McNuggets!
I have never played in a tournament before and I don't think I'm good enough to do that well in one anyway (I have hit legend one time (had to plug that in here somewhere) but I am definitely not the best player especially with multiple classes), but I am interested to see what your pointers are for tournament play as I may decide to play in one at some point (DHL? TACO?) and my brother-in-law and I are planning a nine-class showdown next month to see who can win with all nine first (wow this is a very long sentence and it just keeps going...ok I'll stop). Anyway, in particular I wanted to ask what the best approach is to picking a class/deck for each game in a particular match. I'm assuming you don't get to know what class your opponent is playing until you pick your own class, is that right? So, do you start with your best deck? Or save that for later? Then if you lose, do you pick it again for the next game? Or choose a different class? Any other pointers or rules of thumb with this aspect of tournament play? This is only a small part of tournament play I'm sure, but I've been watching some tournaments lately and thinking about trying to play in one and this came to mind.
Anyway, thanks for your thoughts and the always awesome show! I look forward to it every week and am always sad when it's over and I have to wait a week for the next one! AH! Oh and I have to give credit to my wife, Heather, for the clever greetings. :) Thanks, guys! Have a good one.
Listener Note from Joce: Happy Anniversary to Venla and Joe, who are huge fans of the show! Venla sent the shout out in weeks ago and I missed it.
