Batting Average Activity

In this activity students will figure the batting average for baseball players.

Remind students that even though TV analysts say a player has a batting average of say 285, what they really mean is 28.5% of the time they come up to bat they get a hit.  A batting average is the number of hits a player has divided by the number of at bats they have (rounded to the nearest thousandths place).  Unless a player gets a hit every time they come up to bat, their batting average will always be less than one.

Players:              At bats (AB):                  Hits (H):             Batting Average (BA):

Tom                    125                                 41                       _________
