‘Preparing each child for their future in an ever-changing world’

Playground Refurbishment

We are currently getting quotes to revamp the black tiled area in the playground. The PTA have been fundraising for this over the past year and now have £8,000. The school have match funded this amount and whilst this is a large amount of money it actually won't go that far on such a large area. As a result, we are looking at completing it in phases, with the first phase costing roughly £16,000.
We have been looking at new ways to raise money for phase 2, especially as we are no longer running a craft fair, one idea is to run smaller after school fetes. Once I have received the quotes we will work with the children to refine the ideas, I will also then have an accurate cost that we can share with you and I hope that, with your support, we can achieve our goal.

Please attend the event being held on Friday 28th April after school and give generously to enable us to complete the work sooner.

Year 4 had an amazing time at Youlbury Scout Camp and I am very proud of their behaviour, teamwork and courage. The children went down the zip wire, toasted marshmallows, completed a sensory trail while blindfolded, played capture the flag in the dark, built dens and enjoyed a campfire with silly songs.

There will be a class assembly for parents on Wednesday the 26th April at 2.30pm where children will share their experiences.

Parent Survey

Thank you to the 33 people who have taken time to complete the survey. We have decided to run this for a further 3 weeks. So it will close a week after we return from the Easter break.

Please take the time to do this as it does inform future planning. Last year we responded to the request to provide more sports clubs and changes to the newsletters to name a couple..

Follow the link to complete the survey.

A few safety reminders - please read!

  • Use of the Playground at Collection times

At pick-up time we ask you to respect the PE sessions that may be taking place on the playground courts. This means that families should not use the gates before 2.55pm and parents should ensure they wait away from the courts - we have had toddlers running in and out of netball games in recent sessions!

Additionally, parents and children are requested to leave the playground by 3.30pm. In these warmer months our After School Club uses the outside space and we need to ensure our safeguarding arrangements are robust, your help with this is appreciated.

  • Bikes and Scooters

Can I also remind you that bikes and scooter are not to be ridden on the school grounds - they should be wheeled sensibly to the bike sheds.

  • Village Hall Parking

This is again causing serious safety issues both with speed, parking on the double yellow lines and lack of courtesy - only this week there was a queue of cars waiting to exit the car park and a parent decided to overtake the queue as they wanted to turn right out of the car park, causing a car that was entering to perform an emergency stop!
Please use this space sensibly and remember that it is also used by pedestrians, there have been so many ‘near-misses’ recently and I really do not want to hear of any accidents or injuries.

Didcot Music Festival Success

A special congratulations to the school choir who performed 'Peace Child' last week at Didcot Girls School with 5 other Didcot schools. They had a huge amount of words to learn and their behaviour and attitude throughout made us all very proud. Mrs Crewe, myself and their parents thoroughly enjoyed the concert, thank you to them for giving up their lunch times to learn all the songs.

From the PTA

We will be holding a Spring ‘Fêtelet’ on the first Friday after the Easter holidays (April 28th). The money raised will be put towards refurbishing the playground - see our poster here…
Paper plates for donations to the cake stall will be coming home at the beginning of the week after Easter. If you can buy or bake something for us to sell please bring it to the school library on the morning of the 28th (
no nuts please as there are several pupils with severe nut allergies).

The fête will take place immediately after school until 4.30, in the playground or in the school hall if the weather is bad. There will be ice cream, tea & cake, Irish dancing, splat-the-rat, a coconut shy, and a tombola, as well as other stalls, so we hope you’ll be able to come.

If anyone could volunteer to help on a stall for all or part of the time, please email pta@hagbourne.oxon.sch.uk or speak to a member of the PTA in the playground.

Change of Opening Hours for Junior Newbury Building Society

Commencing Thursday 27th April JNBS will be open for saving at 3.10pm until 3.35pm.

Morning savings were going well but we felt an afternoon session would encourage more people to save their pennies.

If the weather is fine we may set up our savings branch outside to promote the scheme but failing good weather you can find us in The Beehive.

For all those who do not save at the moment come along and ask these questions;

(a) how do we become a Junior Newbury Saver?

(b) how much can we save?

(c) is there an age limit?   etc etc

We are here to help.

Have a great Easter and hope to see you on Thursday 27th at the new time of 3.10pm - 3.35pm
