Course Description 

Spanish 3 will strengthen and develop fundamental skills in Spanish conversation, reading, writing, and listening comprehension through a class conducted primarily in Spanish. Students will continue to develop proficiency while learning advanced grammatical structures and vocabulary. Spanish 3 students will also read and examine short novels, as well as excerpts of authentic texts. Students who successfully complete this course are expected to reach a Intermediate-Mid proficiency level.

Students completing this class with a grade of a C or better are eligible to receive college credit through the College Now Program with Mt. Hood Community College.

Coursework

We will cover the following units):

* We will read one leveled novel as a class and participate in free voluntary reading as well

*Our textbook EntreCulturas 3 is online and available through Clever

Grading

  • 70% Summative Assessment (proficiency of learning standards)
  • 30% Formative Assessment (practice, daily tasks)

Late work is accepted without penalty until the last full day of class before Progress Reports and/or end of grading period. Please communicate with your teacher for details.

Materials (needed daily)

  • Charged chromebook 
  • Folder / place to keep handouts
  • Notebook/composition book and writing utensil 

Classroom Expectations

  • All policies in the student handbook will be followed at all times
  • Students will arrive one time to class
  • Students will come to class prepared with all required materials everyday, including their chromebook and charger
  • Both students and teachers will keep the classroom clean and safe
  • Students will respect all people, property, opinions and feelings
  • Students are expected to actively participate in class (in the target language)
  • Cell phone use is not permitted in the classroom
  • Students will take pride in being a Scot by respecting others, taking ownership of their education, working hard, and embracing their community
  • Treatment Agreements will be created together during the first month of school

Dual Credit - MHCC

  • Course Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  1. Spontaneously produce short utterances appropriate to a fairly large number of given situations in the target language at the novice-high + level in conversation according to ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines and appropriately answer many kinds of simple, concrete questions.
  2. Successfully incorporate a large amount of basic vocabulary and expressions into sentences (for example, shopping, using computers, health, the natural environment, personal relationships, historical events, geography).
  3. Use appropriately all regular and most basic irregular verbs in the present tense and two past tenses, almost all of the time, as well the future tense, the imperative, the pluperfect, the conditional of polite requests and the subjunctive present, with many errors.  Use reflexive verbs and direct, indirect and prepositional object pronouns, with fewer errors.  Use the comparative and superlative, subordinate clauses, adverbs and possessive expressions, with many errors.
  4. Write short, simple sentences, with fewer errors.  
  5. Read with a few pronunciation problems, and successfully interpret the meanings of elementary and some intermediate texts.
