About the Teacher
I have taught at the Dennett Elementary School since 2009. I have enjoyed teaching in this special place! We have fabulous teachers, students, and parents who all work as a team for the best educational opportunities for the students! Prior to teaching at the Dennett, I had taught in New Jersey, Hanson, MA, Marshfield, MA, and Boston Public Schools. I attended Stonehill College for my BA in Elementary Education and received my Master's Degree from Bridgewater University. In 2011, I became certified in Orton-Gillingham, a well-known reading program for dyslexic students through Massachusetts General Hospital.
In my free time, I enjoy traveling, the beach, my parents lake house in NH, reading, running, hiking, playing (and coaching) soccer, and skiing (snow and water). I have traveled to many continents and states to explore and learn about different cultures. My top travel location is Africa, but just as amazing is New Zealand, Australia, Iceland, Ecuador, Ireland, France, and England. In the astonishing USA, I have visited locations including the Grand Canyon, Big Sur, Olympic National Park, Portland, Joshua Tree, Redwoods, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Glacier National Park, and Hawaii. I hope to continue to relieve my itchy feet every summer! I was married to my husband Keith Garvey over the summer of 2016. We had an amazing time and travelled to Hawaii for our honeymoon. I have an amazing family who all live nearby.
Hello! I love teaching at Dennett Elementary School! I have a Bachelor's Degree from Assumption College and a Masters Degree in Education from Curry College. I taught first grade for three years and preschool for two years on the South Shore. I am trained in the Wilson Reading Program, a rules-based phonics program. I have also worked for six summers with children with intensive special needs. I enjoy working with children of all ages and abilities!
Outside of school, I have a great husband, a daughter, and a puppy, named Penny! I enjoy reading, going to the beach, and spending time with my family.
