Cucarachita

Think about the story of “Cucarachita” that we heard at the Duffy Assembly. Try to write down the story. Use speech marks to tell us what the characters were saying!

Once upon a time there lived a cockroach named Cucarachita. She was incredibly sad. She thought her face was not beautiful. One day she got out of bed and started to stomp down town. She looked this way that way. When she got home she looked in the mirror and said “Oh no no no no no! Look at me! I am not beautiful. My squinkly eyes and my pukey little mouth.”

So the next day she found a wig and she put it on with some bright pink juicy lipstick and some thick shiny makeup and she felt beautiful. On the street she saw a big green fat lizard. The Lizard said to Cucarachita “Will you marry me?” Cucarachita was thinking for a while but she looked in the Lizard’s face and said “So, what will you sing for me on my wedding day?” The lizard was thinking for a very long time. Cucarachita ran away and she looked this way and that way, left and right and she found a very ugly cat. The cat looked at her and thought she was beautiful and asked her to marry him. She thought again like the big fat green lizard and said “No I can not marry you’’ and she ran away.

But she saw the most hairy rat and the rat sang a song. She thought that was the most beautiful romantic song she ever heard. The Rat asked her to marry him and of course she said “ Yes” So they got married and had their first ever kiss. One day while they were living in their big beautiful house the hairy rat was cooking dinner in the kitchen when Cucarachita was sitting at the window. She took her beautiful wig off and took off her beautiful thick shiny makeup. When the Hairy Rat finished cooking the dinner he saw Cucarachita and dropped the dinner plates and said “Oh Cucarachita! What have you done to yourself? You look even more beautiful than you did with your wig and makeup!’’ He spotted a very shiny golden blonde wig on the floor and saw the smudged makeup on her face and said “You are beautiful in the inside and the outside.’’ So from then on they lived happily ever after.
