The WASC Goal 1 Team finalized Carlsbad High School’s definition of student engagement which is defined as:
Student engagement is students taking an active role in their learning demonstrated through inquiry, collaboration, and production.
Through diverse instructional strategies, teachers guide students through dynamic, interactive lessons which provide opportunities to expand knowledge by reading, writing, speaking and listening.
Using the AVID WICOR Strategies, the WASC Goal 1 Team is now working on identifying instructional strategies that will be used in our classrooms that support our definition of student engagement. The next steps will be for the team to provide professional development on the identified instructional strategies.
