Modron Stacking formations and best practices

Method:

  • Automate using Modron Core to load a formation, reset and use potions (usually just S+M+L speed and S or M firebreath)
  • Formation jumps until they can’t kill the enemies anymore, this is the stacking zone
  • Briv gets hit and Thellora ramps dmg
  • Stacking zone is cleared and the formation jumps one more time past the Modron reset zone (usually one zone after the stacking zone)

Best practices:

  • Use your speed pots. With elly capped and the apothecary you can maintain 10x speed using S+M+L speed pots pretty easily
  • Keep your dmg to a minimum. It’s always easier to add back dmg if you need it than to reduce it. No damage nodes on the speed core (no dmg Fast Core), weakest specs, no dmg feats unless needed for tuning
  • Lvl up x100, not by upgrade
  • Use firebreath pots, not lvling click dmg (medium is recommended to start, but smalls work fine)
  • Before 9j favor in the e80 - e100 range is recommended
  • Make sure to leave a buffer between Thelloras’s minimum rush stacks zone (favor exponent x5) and your reset zone (around 2 Briv jumps should be enough)
  • Modron reset zone should be at least 1 zone after your stack zone and at most 1 zone before Briv’s next landing zone. This way you collect an extra boss after Modron reset and leave a buffer for recovery in case of an understack (i.e at 4j Briv stacking at z501 you want your reset zone between z502 and z505)
  • Tune your dmg so that you have 60 - 80 sprint stacks left at your stack zone. Use +% dmg feats, str pots, spec choices and Modron dmg nodes
  • Use Scholar (+2 int) feat on Diana make her dodge BBEG’s buff and reduce dmg (same for Hew Maan and Thellora if needed)
  • Use 3 familiars on the field for 4j/9j and 5 otherwise
  • Keep your briv at 100% jump or use round down feats Wasting Haste (round down to 4j), Strategic Stride (round down to 9j) or Accurate Acrobatics (round down to 100%)

Roots of Loomlurch: https://ic.byteglow.com/formation/6_3b4b5b948b5300000000

5 familiars on the field

The combination of Melf and Hew Maan can get all areas to 1 kill clear at that point BBEG and Kalix can be removed from the formation

Melf Rework Everlasting Rime

https://ic.byteglow.com/formation/5_3a4b3b8b5b0094530000_11311133130NaN
3 or 5 familiars on the field depending on Briv’s j number (see regular formations above)

Melf can get all areas to 1 kill clear replacing BBEG
However he brings a pretty significant dmg buff compared to other speed champs and currently his Melf in the Middle ability is not working 100% consistently, sometimes it activates even if Melf is not in the most populated column. I found it more consistent if I intentionally have it active, but that means a bigger range and higher buff.

Melf also has a prestack item for his second specialization so be careful adding ilvls to him if you can’t deal with his support buff increasing

Melf not buffing anyone: https://ic.byteglow.com/formation/5_3a4b8b945b0000533b00_11131100330

This has not worked consistently for me, so try at your own risk. Melf in the Middle gets false positive activations every few runs

Lark over Widdle and BBEG

https://ic.byteglow.com/formation/5_3a4b8b94aa0053000000_11131303000
3 or 5 familiars on the field depending on Briv’s j number (see regular formations above)

Some people have reported having issues with Widdle and BBEG so it might be beneficial to use Lark over them for his Bardic Perspiration ability that spawns extra enemies in the familiar’s click range. His debuff proved a little tricky to tune around, I couldn’t get the usual 60-80 sprint stacks left, but even with a higher safety margin he performed in line with the regular formation even a little better for me (1 person, 1 set of hardware so your results may vary)

Lark has a prestack item for his specialization so be careful adding ilvls to him if you can’t deal with his support buff increasing

Favor/Route Suggestions

3j Roots of Loomlurch - Any even favor exponent

4j Everlasting Rime - Favor exponent ending in 1, 2, 4, 6, 7 or 9 (avoiding 3 or 8 for barriers and 0 or 5 for bosses). 1, 2, 6 and 7 have one more quick transition; 4 and 9 have a good slowdown route if you hit giants z34 right before your stacking zone

6j Everlasting Rime - Each route only hits one Roc boss (z50) and two barrier zones (z43/z48)

Route 1 - Requires stack zone z486 or lower (Roc at z150, barriers at z143/z248)
Favor e52/e59/e66/e73/e80/e87

Route 2 - Requires Stack zone z536 or lower (Roc at z200, barriers at z193/z298)

FAQ

  • Why is X champion not mentioned? (Shandie, Sentry, Minsc etc.); Basically they don’t provide enough benefit to outweigh the increase in dmg and system resources
  • Where is Dragonbait / Nerys / Azaka I saw on reddit? These are not needed anymore, previously you would create a hard wall with Nerys (undead) or Azaka (outdoors) and use Dragonbait’s dmg ramp to clear the stack zone. This method is outdated
  • Why Everlasting Rime? Quick transitions and good layout for Briv, Hew Maan, Diana, Widdle etc.
  • Why Roots of Loomlurch? Quick transitions and no armored bosses
  • Why use attack cooldown reduction on Thellora? Her speed ability Plateaus Unicorn Run depends on her attacking, the quicker she attacks the sooner she rushes
  • Why not lvling click dmg? Elly’s moon card causes too much variance in GF, fb pots are a lot more predictable
  • Why is my BPH not as good as X person’s? Hardware, platform and server lag can affect BPH even if your farm setup is good

Pro tips/Advanced tunning

After you get your farm working consistently, try the following tricks to increase farm performance, not all of them work for everyone, so test with your setup

  • Avoid running background parties, they reduce farm performance and can cause dmg spikes (bg party bleed). Currently Bobby, Cazrin and Trials adventures are the most common, but we don’t know exactly what causes it.
  • If possible, stack in the zone immediately after the giants in z33/z34 and at least 2 jumps after a boss zone. This provides a free clear zone and reduces the late farm slowdown.
  • Apply the PC tweaks by editing the localSettings.json file (pinned in the modron stacking thread or on the PC tweaks section below) to increase frame rate cap (600 to start, maybe more maybe less) and reduce particles spawned to 0
  • Reset your game often, varies by system and platform, but the game slows down over time, so resetting every 2 - 4 hours helps reduce lag
  • Set pots to load at z2+, sometimes z1 lags too much, so using pots later can help
  • Tune your stacking and reset zones right after a Quick Transition. ER QTs are mostly in z14 and z21-z47, so stacking and/or resetting right after a cluster of QTs might improve bph
  • Add a +200% node to your modron core to account for weekend/weekly party buffs, the most common buffs that affect the farm are flat 200% increases (Elly and Diana) so if you have a node that also provides that bonus you can just remove it and keep everything else the same

PC tweaks

Edit localSettings.json

Increase FPS and reduce particles by editing localSettings.json while the game is closed (note, opening settings in-game may reset your updates back to the default values of 120 FPS and 100% particles spawned)

  • For Steam, the default location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\IdleChampions\IdleDragons_Data\StreamingAssets
  • For EGS, the default location is C:\Program Files\Epic Games\IdleChampions\IdleDragons_Data\StreamingAssets

Change the values of TargetFramerate to 600 and PercentOfParticlesSpawned to 0

Disable EGS Overlay

You can do this by navigating to C:\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games\Launcher\Portal\Extras\Overlay or [Epic Games Install Folder]\Epic Online Services\managedArtifacts and deleting/renaming the following files

  • EOSOverlayRenderer-Win64-Shipping.exe
  • EOSOverlayRenderer-Win32-Shipping.exe
