brain-194932_640.jpg [1]

Writers throughout history have turned to satire in order to convey cultural criticism, and the tool lends itself particularly well to the genre of dystopian fiction. In this lesson you’ll read a work by Kurt Vonnegut and reflect on its characters, community and message. This lesson will provide you with rich material for generating a strong claim statement.

Benchmark:

11.7.1.1 Write arguments to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts, using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence.

Learning Target

I can explain claim, evidence, and warrant, and I can write a paragraph successfully integrating each.

STEP 3:

Considering Satire - Working collaboratively once again, your final task will be to make a list of things that Vonnegut is satirizing in this story. Your list will be combined with that of other groups to form a master list for the class.

STEP 4:

Submit the list for feedback.
