The Lady, 16 July 1925
A Concert at Lancing College.
There were leave-takings at Lancing College on Saturday. The Head Master and Mrs. Bowlby said good-bye to the boys and to their parents who had come down for the annual concert, for they are leaving at the end of the term for Chichester, where Canon Bowlby will occupy a stall at the Cathedral. Mrs. Bowlby was wearing a becoming black gown and a grey hat and scarf. Mr. Justice Sankey, who presented a portrait of the Head Master, by de Laszlo [2507], to the College the other day, was present and made a delightful speech, among many others who came were the Rev. Charles Tower and Miss Tower, Mr. and Mrs. R. Sanderson and their daughter, the latter in a pink-flowered frock and a pink hat, Mr. and Mrs. Scott Arnott, and Mr. and Mrs. Eggar and their daughter Miss Kathleen Eggar. Miss Kinloch came in black charmeuse and a white fur stole, Mrs. James’s blue gown was trimmed with Paisley georgette, Mrs. Ernest Harrison (who came with her husband) wore a picture wrap of black satin beauté and a large hat, and Miss Sheila Richards wore a pretty beige suit and a large crinoline hat. The concert in the Great-Hall, under the direction of Mr. Brent Smith, included beautiful part-songs and solos by the boys.
Tea was served in the lower quadrangle afterwards. The Head Master and boys were congratulated upon the splendid success at Bisley last week, when Lancing won the Ashburnham Shield for the second time.
