SDUSD High School Graduation Requirement: 6 credits (3 years) in UC 'c' approved Mathematics courses

UC/CSU “c” Requirement for College Admissions:Three (3) years of college preparatory mathematics that includes the topics covered in Elementary Algebra/Algebra 1, Geometry and Advanced Algebra/Algebra 2. Approved Integrated Math courses may be used to fulfill part or all of this requirement.

Department Scope and Sequence

Any course listed under the grade level satisfies grade requirement. All high school courses listed satisfy SDUSD High School graduation and UC/CSU college admission requirement. Note that courses with an asterisk (*) have eligibility requirements or prerequisite(s).

6th Grade

Common Core Math 6th (4133_2): Required for 6th grade students, this course covers basic arithmetic, simple equations, surface area and volumes of solids, and statistical reasoning.

Accelerated Math 6th (4136_2): Open to 6th grade students who passed placement test. This accelerated course covers 6th Grade Math plus the first semester of 7th grade math.

7th Grade

Common Core Math 7th (4134_2): Required for 7th grade students, this course covers basic equations and inequalities, proportional reasoning, geometric constructions, probability, and surface area and volume of solids.

or

Accelerated Math 7th (4137_2): Open to 7th grade students who passed placement test and have Mathematics Department recommendation. This accelerated course covers second semester of 7th Grade Math and all of 8th Grade Math.

8th Grade

Common Core Math 8th (4135_2): Required for 8th grade students, this course covers writing and solving equations, solving systems of equations, functions, transformations, triangle geometry, data analysis, and exponents.

Integrated Mathematics I A-B (4157, 4158): Open to students who earned an A or B in Accelerated Math 7th and have Mathematics Department recommendation, this course covers linear equations, graphing linear and exponential equations, congruence and transformations, data analysis and lines of best fit

9th Grade

Integrated Mathematics I A-B (4157, 4158): Required for 9th grade students OR those who have successfully completed Common Core Math 8; covers linear equations, graphing linear and exponential equations, congruence and transformations, data analysis and lines of best fit

Advanced Integrated Mathematics I A-B (4165, 4166): Open to 8th or 9th grade students who passed placement test and have Mathematics Department recommendation. This course covers all of Integrated Math I, with an addition of vectors and matrices.

10th Grade

Integrated Mathematics II A-B (4159, 4160): Required for 10th grade students who have successfully passed Integrated 1 or Advanced Integrated 1. This course covers operations with Real Numbers, polynomials, quadratics and complex numbers, probability, functions, and geometric constructions and transformations.

Advanced Integrated Mathematics II A-B (4167, 4168): Open to students who earned an A or B in Advanced Integrated Mathematics I or earned an A in Integrated I and have Mathematics Department recommendation. This course covers all of Integrated II, with an addition of conics, complex number operations, and operations with matrices.

11th Grade

Integrated Mathematics III A-B (4163, 4164): Required for 11th grade students who have successfully passed Integrated II or Advanced Integrated II. This course covers polynomials, sequences and series, statistical inference, trigonometry, exponential and logarithmic functions, and modeling with optimization and geometry.

Advanced Integrated Mathematics II A-B (4169, 4170): Open to students who earned an A or B in Advanced Integrated II or an A in Integrated II and and have Mathematics Department recommendation. This course covers all of Integrated III, with an addition of Pre-Calculus topics.

Electives

Students who wish to take a fourth year (or more) of high school mathematics have the following options:

Honors Precalculus 1-2* (4181, 4182): Open to 11th-12th grade students who earned an A in Integrated Math III or an A or B in Advanced Integrated Math III. This course covers polynomial, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions, conics, discrete mathematics, and beginning topics in Calculus, if time permits.

Statistics and Data Analysis 1-2* (4046, 4047): Open to 11th-12th grade students who successfully completed  Integrated Math III. The course covers major concepts of probability, interpretation of data, and statistical problem solving.

AP Statistics 1-2* (4055, 4056): Open to 11th-12th grade students who successful completed Integrated Math III  or higher and has teacher recommendation. The course covers major concepts of probability, interpretation of data, and statistical problem solving and prepares students to take the AP exam.

AP Calculus AB 1-2* (4189, 4190): Open to 11th-12th grade students who have passed the Qualifying Exam and have teacher recommendation. This course covers major concepts of analysis of Functions, Graphs, Limits, Derivatives, and Integrals and prepares students to take the AP exam.
