Dear <MP name>,

Boosting community-led housebuilding

I am a constituent writing on behalf of <insert name of CLT here> to ask you to lobby the Housing Minister for policies that will enable us - and hundreds of other community-led developers - to build much-need affordable homes.

We are <write a few sentences about your CLT and completed/planned projects here, and any CHF grants, referring to our guidance>

The Housing Minister has told our national body, the Community Land Trust Network, that the Government recognises that community-led housing delivers a wide range of benefits, that the sector remains very small in comparison with many other European countries, and that this represents a significant loss of housing supply.

The government has a clear opportunity to boost community-led development by:

  1. Using planning reforms to de-risk proposals that come from local community organisations, with demonstrable local support, including with the current NPPF consultation.
  2. Improving access to finance, particularly pre-development finance to secure land and planning permissions, something the Community Housing Fund addressed with great success from 2017 to 2021.
  3. Regulatory reforms to protect community led homes as the abuse of leasehold is ended, and ensuring a proportionate approach to regulating micro-sized providers of social housing.

We have enclosed a briefing from the Community Land Trust Network covering our main asks.

As the government considers its response to the NPPF consultation and its approach to the autumn statement, we urgently need your help. Please can you raise this with Matthew Pennycook MP, the Minister of State for Housing? I have attached a template letter, which I hope you will find useful when contacting the Minister.

Yours sincerely,

<Name, address if in the constituency, name of CLT and position in CLT>
