Wallace III.

There is a touch of pathos in the fact that the expiration of a lease is to bring about the removal, in early summer of an institution which has in the course of 75 years become one of the famous art centres of London. The French Gallery, at the junction of Cockspur Street and Pall Mall, has been in the hands of the Wallace family since its establishment, and the present owner is known to his friends as Harry Wallace the Third. His namesakes have made notable contributions to the history of art, for it was largely. through the medium of the gallery, which is the oldest but one in London, that painters like Corot, Rousseau, Millet, the Mari[loss] Israels, and Mauve were first introduced to the British public. Its last exhibition in the old buildings will be that of the paintings of De Laszlo, the display being both a valediction and a 60th birthday tribute to the great artist. The new location of the galleries will, I understand, be in Bond Street, whose growing artistic reputation will thereby be considerably enhanced.
