Honoured Professor,

I am writing to you in response to your kind letter of the 17th of this month to inform you that His Majesty the Emperor regrets very much no longer being able to lend you the big portrait with horse [4952] for exhibition purposes as the picture has found a definite place in the picture gallery of the Royal Castle in Berlin. It is now set into a wall there.

His Majesty thanks you most warmly for sending “The Studio” and I was very touched that you had not forgotten about me.
